I think I'm just young enough to have "bypassed" these pillars of fame. There was also a heavy stigma surrounding them where and when I was growing up, you were a right weirdo if liked that stuff, peer pressure stuff.
Even now I just can't listen to them, mental block thing going on.
For solo artists I started with Elkie Brooks,Babs, Carly Simon, Karen Carpenter, Simon & Garfunkel, Crystal Gayle, Randy Crawford etc. Mainly the stuff my mum played on our old Philips music centre!
I still love the look of the better Music Centres, top end National, Philips, Hitachi, B&O, Sharp "Searcher Series" from way back then.
I remember a girlfriends dad had a National, he was dead chuffed I thought it was cool, as the family was trying to get him to hack it in. Browny point with GFs dad, Yeah!

Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Neil Sedaka, Bing Crosby, Elvis etc. etc. Anybody else appreciate these guys? Yes, I do except for Neil Sedaka. Oh, what Hifi and aging has turned me into. When I was much younger, I used to be like the grandfather I had highlighted in one of the thread here and into rock mostly. I just can't stand what I can stand now although I can stand Carpenters and the likes then ......... Hifi has taught me that those Sinatra, etc recordings are really much better than those rock recording. How many rock recording sounds better than those? Well, maybe aging has "taught" me to be mellower as well to accept more things in life. Now I listen from classical to heavy metal. No death metal, please. Until now my soul still can't accept that as part of life.

Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Neil Sedaka, Bing Crosby, Elvis etc. etc. Anybody else appreciate these guys? Sure did ! Yes, I loved all of those too. I found Crystal Gayle quite relaxing to listen to ,as welll as easy on the eyes in her videos, and have several of her CDs. It's a shame that the recorded quality is quite mediocre. I did have a very nice sounding Half Speed Mastered LP from her though. IMO, CD releases of her stuff at that point in time didn't do her justice.

Now your talking my language! The Dorsey brothers, and the great Glenn Miller. Grew up with them on the HiFi all the time. Kind of bypassed Elvis somehow. My Mom had every 45 of Sinatra, she was a bobby soxer! Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, and Bing Crosby. Still listen to them at times when the mood strikes me. Like maybe tonight!

I'm back. I have already Zep enough of myself. No, no, I didn't commit suicide. Back to sanity, recording wise, many by them are, and still are, amongst the most beguiling of all available recording, audiophile included. To add to the list: 1) Mel Torme 2) Aretha Franklin 3) The Ventures 4) The Shadows 5) Nat King Cole 6) Everly Brothers Enjoy!
