I took another look over there recently. I’ve already posted elsewhere that I think it’s a scary place. Its so ultra-opinionated, and snobby, my headphone/amp/source/cable is the best, much better than yours therefore you don’t know what you’re talking about. Never mind Mike’s occasional “tired and emotional” rants – we’ve all been there, done that – these people come across as nasty and vicious and desperate to force their views on other people. We’ve all heard of car-crash T.V., this is car-crash forum. I know I shouldn’t look but I can’t help it!! Imagine you’re walking down the street and an argument breaks out between some drunken idiots – you know you shouldn’t look but you just can’t help it, it’s so entertaining. And as you walk by you think to yourself “thank god I’m nothing to do with that lot!”. That’s how I feel about , you know, the other place. Put it this way, I’m a member of only 1 forum and if RG didn’t exist I wouldn’t be a member of any forum.

x2 I know there are a lot of members active in both places. For me one forum is enough... costs me enough time as it is Still I go over there from time to time as there is enough 'good stuff' floating around there too.

The guys on here are real people. That's exactly what I enjoy about RG. Many guys on there have something to prove although there are also some knowledgeable people as well. It can be very difficult to know who's for real and who has their own little personal agenda. I love the freedom that we have here to let a thread develop in whatever direction. It can be really interesting to see how they develop and the thinking behind what's being said. That is just not allowed in the other place so conversations become kind of stilted. I also hate the saying, 'Google is your best friend'. Very often, a simple conversation can lead into quite a lot of discussion, or else we could all use Google and not bother speaking eh?

I, seriously, haven't looked at Head-Fi since Rick died..... I went over there for a look to see what they were trying to do to help him in his last days..... nothing. I can't comment on Head-Fi "today" as I have no desire to visit the place. By the way...... If it wasn't for Rick "Head-Fi" wouldn't exist

I also am a very seldom guest on head-fi these days, it has become to big and bloated to me also it has become quite hard to navigate, nah I like it here and on our danish forum..
I also got a bit pished when they deleted some of my posts, I was writing in danish to a norwegian guy (krmathis a great headfier BTW), just for fun and to give him and me something to laugh about, they could at least have had the decency to contact me in advance and ask me to delete or write in english, which BTW is no forumrule AFIK..

I have to agree with you - I'm on the verge of leaving that forum as they really are full of mis-information & there's a nastiness that I have recently encountered which I don't like. Mind you Computeraudiophile isn't much better but more civilised, I guess. As for DIYA ...... Jeez, I seem to have a problem with all of them

Mind you Computeraudiophile isn't much better but more civilised, I guess. As for DIYA ...... Jeez, I seem to have a problem with all of them I find it's the "moderators" in these places that let the side down. They come across as superior, all knowing, all seeing types.... I was ALWAYS being "advised" how I should be conducting myself by them and THAT (alone) caused to me to take the "fekk you" approach toward them. The only genuine, down to earth, bloke over there was Rick... the rest of them are a bunch of pricks who do ZERO else but censor words.... they're a bunch of wannabee traffic wardens IMO and not at all helpful when it comes to an audio related question.... ie: most of them haven't got a clue and misinformation rules the roost over there. It's also about keeping their "sponsors" happy.... the membership make the place what it is (NOT the moderating team) but they seem to have forgotten that. It's all about $$$ now.

Actually, that place seems full of kids who love their downloads or stuck up nerds who put everyone down. There was a guy on there even selling his own album. All well and good for an amateur, (however, he's a pro) but to push your sales through a site using your 'E-friends' is to me at least, slightly distasteful. Your friends almost feel compelled to buy the album and then tell you how wonderful it is which isn't very nice. I had a listen to this album, which is in the same field as me and all I felt was 'crap'. Computer generated sounds with no soul but posh titles making people kind of feel elitist about it, recorded in extremely high quality so that the audience felt that it was a quality album. Biggest problem was no soul. That is the biggest hurdle in that particular field. He got snooty with me and asked me to check his profile out, so I asked him to check mine first. (Show me yours and I'll show you mine kind of thing) Totally childish. He never spoke to me again. There is no need for that kind of snobbishness and it doesn't matter even if you're the Queen!! However, there seems to be a collection of them there including the Mad Er Hators, (Moderators) and I'm afraid to say, some started to appear here with that attitude, but an RG slap got rid of them!! The funny thing is that you have a freer reign here than there and that kind of thing rarely happens here. Wonder why? Respect all round. Until someone just goes to far that is!!

Simple.... everyone is considered as equal. If ANY of the moderating team here started laying down the law "according to themself" Alex or I would boot their arses right out the door.
When you start "moderating" people you are, in effect, saying "sorry, I disagree with you... please adopt MY opinion or get banned"..... Not good.
I'd like to think that we are all intelligent ADULTS and can moderate our own behaviour... we ALL (and I'm a prime example) have the odd "moment" where we let rip, say things we regret saying etc. but we are adult enough to come back the next day and say "sorry, I was out of order".....
I consider everyone on this forum as "responsible" adults.... there is no need to "moderate" responsible adults, they are self moderating.
The "moderators" here are not an "I know better than you" force to be reckoned with..... they have earned their moderator status from the input they have provided, the help to others they have provided...... they have not (and never will) earned their reputation through "banning" people and "censoring" posts.
Mike.

Talking of snobery, I was even asked on CA by Chris to state my credentials & CV as the readers could then have some measure of what I was saying. I lost it & had a rant at the next poster, I asked him to do the same - turns out he was Demian Martin (apparently a famous audio guy - I didn't know). I got banned I agree, it's the moderators that ruin a forum! This one being particularly open & friendly without pretence I often wondered why a forum could not be run more democratically & people get banned based on votes rather than the whims of moderators?

John You would also be aware that after I posted in DIYAudio the question as to why the test results could not be released at the same time as the listening test results to avoid prejudicing the results of the listening session, it was soon after deleted. Later, in response to another poster, I asked if the moderators were consulting before deleting posts, and that it was virtually unheard of in other forums to delete a post by a fellow moderator, as they did there, without the courtesy of even sending him a PM. A moderator put on his "cop's hat"and drew my attention to the rules that the actions of moderators was not to be discussed in threads. My post was then deleted. Alex

I know, Alex, there's a revolution needed over there as the "eye of Sauron" is getting stronger - "one measurement to rule them all"

In fairness I must say that I have meet many nice people on the other place and have never really been insulted, by anyone, but it is also very seldom I post there these days.. 5-6 years ago headfi was much more pleasant than it is now, I do not know what happened there, maybe there are just too many members and the loudmouths are the ones that get heard ? There is a lot of knowledge on that forum, which I respect, just sad the knowledge gets drowned by gazillions of threads, with nothing new.. When I do go there, most of the posters are unknown to me, it is like comming to an bar 20 years after the place is stilll there but it is not the same as when you were a regular.. One thread I really loved on headfi was www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/203032/ers-paper-picture-and-video-threadWonderfull thread

Here's another example of that obnoxious pr*ck that used to run DiyHiFi.org & now has set up another forum. He is known as Jocko or Pat from ART & posts on CA, audiocircle, & all the usual forums. He has hurled lot's of abuse at me on DiyHifi & had me banned but he still continues his childishness on his own forum: jockohomo.net/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=4b9080bd7f64f0dce70707afa387c8cf&topic=27.msg91#msg91"......I gotta try harder to annoy some people. Starting with some git in Ireland. Jocko" Just wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware of him!

*lol* Yup, the other place - still exists, but imo has completely lost any attractivity. Today it comes across like a shopping mall with an overblown forum attached, in which people rather seem to compete in owning the latest and greatest, than to actually enjoy their stuff (a disease one can catch there all too quickly, so: avoid!). As for myself, the forum I feel most at home today is VinylEngine (sorry guys, but the vinyl subforum here seems rather deadish - otherwise I'd probably drop by more often (in case anyone cared )). And another one I like is the German Dual-Board. Nevertheless it's good to see that RG still exists and you guys are still having fun, every time I hop in for a check... Greetings from Munich & I hope you're all doing fine! Manfred / lini

Ha, just ran across this thread. I started over "there" and don't really have much to say about it other than most of the topics I enjoyed reading/learning about get recycled about once a week. I have to thank Claus for posting a link to the Panda thread over here. After reading Mike's postings in that thread (technical and one in particular involving margarine) I figured that this would be a pretty fun place, so far it has been.

I used to post a lot at HF, heck I have over 18,500 posts there. But for the last 3 months I do not think I have had more than 75 posts, it just is not fun anymore.
