Last night in the UK we saw the Prisoner remake on ITV. Oh dear. What a shame. What a waste of eveyone's skill, time, effort and money. Hi Derek, I watched a recording of it yesterday because I've been away. It was just a load of tosh. The second one tonight looks just as bad too. Patrick would have gone mental if he had seen this. It's not supposed to be 'Americanised'. The village is just daft. Patrick was in the process of making negotiations for the making of the film for quite a few years before his death. He wasn't a particularly easy man but he had a point since the minute he's gone, some idiot comes up with this version that just doesn't get the 'flavour' of the original series. Tonight's episode is going to go into flash backs, which is complete nonsense and the surrealistic atmosphere is completely missed. I hated it. I've stayed quite a few times in the Village. (Portmerion) It's a respite for lots of actors and very expensive. It's absolutely beautiful although a little run down nowadays, but all of the original buildings are still up and look like a film set. I found out why Patrick runs on the beach in such an effeminate way at the start of every series - your feet get sucked into the mud. I tried it and running like Patrick did it is the way!! Once when i stayed there, I had the actor from the Full Monty next door - Robert Carlyle. (Pre James Bond) He was full of it too. I think that it's a pity that they didn't re-create the original episodes starting with 'Arrival'. That's what Patrick would have wanted and certainly wanted in a film version that reflected a British spy, not American. Ian
