Its performance is remarkable especially at the high frequencies that create the sense of imaging and realism.

It's a shame that it didn't do that for the Transporter that I have heard several times. Of course, it may be the way that it was implemented, and not the DAC itself.

A guy I spoke to mentioned they are as picky to use as the ESS chips , go figure

They also do a 32bit version which has worse spec in some area's than the 4396 www.asahi-kasei.co.jp/akm/en/product/ak4399/ak4399.html
