Best of luck tomorrow Mick. I have a sister who had a similar procedure, at least same area and entry the same way. It has made an incredible difference to her quality of life.

Looks like I'm too late to you wish you luck for the op. However, assuming you read this on your return, I hope you're not too sore and wish you a speedy recouperation.

I thought you were polishing it ? Don't be so disgusting! I haven't dusted my knob for months, let alone go into a fully "pledged" polish

Love you polished knob. . . It's lovely! My bloody camera decided to go apeshit when I was taking the pics so will have to order a new one (these digital cameras don't seem to last do they?) so the pics are not showing the knob at it's best...... Mick, you really are a very talented man

I have since removed that LUMP of a stepped attenuator and replaced it with a much smaller one which has Vishay SMD resistors (instead of the normal metal film types....) MUCH smoother in action My favourite component of the sound,"the bass", is now positively subterranean.... it extends right down into the pits of hell.... this is serious bass! Another thing I have noticed since the attenuator replacement is the soundstage..... the sound now extends beyond the confines of my Senn HD-250ll linears.... this really surprised me as, with my other amps, they have been pretty much an in-head type of affair.... not so with the WAD, it manages to throw the sound clean out of the head which is friggin' brilliant! The mids are silky smooth, lush and EXTREMELY involving... a totally "classy" sound I had put this amp to one side for a while (and I'm glad I did) going back to it has been an ear opener of the best possible kind. This is a port and stilton type listen, to be savoured, not a pint of ale and a crusty cheese and onion roll type of "fill you up for a couple of quid" type listen.... this is class on a stick. Think Bentley, think Pimms on the lawn, think cucumber sandwiches, think the glorious sound of leather on willow on a warm summers afternoon..... This amp travels first class, it gets waiter service, it has it's own butler..... quintessentially "English" sounding. It doesn't wear Armani suits and cheap smelling Dago aftershaves.... nope, this is a brown brogue and tweed suit type of amp.... it hangs out in gentlemen's clubs and reads the Times newspaper.... As I say, an amp to be savoured, an amp for "that" special moment.... the sound dancing about inside those vintage Mullards, waltzing through the Allen Bradley resistors, Tangoing along the cable into your headphones...... Superb! I'm off to thinly slice a cucumber and chill some Pimms

I will stick with my DACT2 in the main system though. Alex

Haven`t a clue what all those bits do Mike!!!! but would love to have a listen Sure thing Mick, I've got it up to a standard now where I am confident to "show" it to others.... she's not the prettiest amp on the block (a big lump of black steel) but, man, she sure does sing a very emotional, involving, exciting song..... I'll be happy to send her over to you next Monday.... keep her for as long as you like (within reason!) I'll burn in a new pair of Mullards over the weekend so you will hear her at her "ultimate" (I'm still using the pair that were in it when Stuart sent her over) I'm too bloody "stingy" to crack into my supply of brand new Mullards I've got 20 pairs of the bastards too, I can be a right obsessive bugger at times.... saving things for a "rainy day".... it's clear to me now that it's pissing down every day so may as well use things whilst I'm still alive and can appreciate them ;D Oh well..... it's worth opening up a new pair for you Mike.

This guyHe does it "without knob" for sixteen quid but it's WELL worth the extra for the attenuator + knob It's a SOLID / HEAVY top hat type and the perfect partner for the attenuator I have tried a few "ebay" attenuators and most of them are noisy between steps..... this one is absolutely smooth as silk with no crackles or pops between steps.... it really is a quality attenuator.... the "action" is positive yet flowing...... I've bought quite a few things from this guy and they always arrive within days.... I haven't been disappointed yet, good quality parts at a reasonable price. Mike.
