The heading may not be accurate but I was looking at a thread on a forum on Head-fi that of course I cannot now find.
The thrust of the thread was that there are now CDPs that can be used to record from any source - vinyl/CD/Radio etc.
Apparently you once had to use two machines but the operataion is now all in one box.
I know that with increasing age and probably a body cracking up, putting on LPs and handling them properly may become a problem.
So, with over a thousand LPs I need to transfer them either onto CD or hard disc. I know that top quality CDs with a very long lifespan are now quite cheap even for the best quality, especially when bought b y the 100s.
Copying to hard disc has it's own problems with low life expectancy of hard drives 8-10 years. Also I am totally sold on laptops and that in itself is a problem unlike a desktop that has plenty of space in it's tower to take the very best soundcards etc.
Then I read about CD recorders. Does anyone have any input on this. My 63 KI is getting long in the tooth and will soon need a new laser assembly and a lot of component changes inside. If I can buy a CDP that I can use to turn my music into CD format, this maybe the best way to go.

OK, I got my arse into gear and googled - up came the HHB 800/882/850.
Marantz CDR 630/640. Fostex CR500.
The HHBs will record to Red Book standard and interestingly one professional bemoaned the fact that there were some basic op-amps in there.
I like buying s/hand and there are plenty to choose from on various ebays. Opinions please.

I used to have the Philips version of the Marantz recorder. It was, to put it succinctly, crap. My laptop does a better job and much faster

That's interesting, I have a Dutch mate that is an IT specialist and he has rec. some gear to use with my laptop but it was because he said that options and quality are that much better with a desktop.
The HHB stuff are used in studios - does anyone have any input on these?
