Does anyone know where to buy the original superlux velour pads shown above in the photo?

Hello,
I got myself these headphones after reading about them so much around the web and I really like them so far. I have been reading this thread a lot and bought myself an OFC cable for recabling after reading that recabling gives even better soundquality. The cable I bought already has a jack on it so all that needs to be is taking the headphones apart and soldering the new cable in but the thing is that while I happen to own a soldering iron, I haven't ever really soldered anything serious and got no experience on recabling or even general electronics. So if anyone could help with giving some tips on how to do it correctly with these headphones, I'd be grateful.
Thank you in advance!

Hello! From the MDR 7506, to an ELE DAC > O2 Amp > DT250/80. I am definitely excited about the potential the HD681's have! Enough so to make a new account and bypass the introduction thread to here!
I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive (+ parts ordered from farnell after a good read on this thread.. Also going to replace the main cable with Van Damme), but I may have accidentally thrown a spanner into my mix.
I am planning to route wires from the left headphone into the other via the headband, which shouldn't be rocket science with proper soldering technique and cable management. The problem resides in the wire I ordered, which is silver plated copper with a Teflon jacket (yes I realised my mistake a tad too late). The real question is: "Would microphonics play a big role with such a wire around 15 inches (40cm) long?"
If it's true, I have some excess speaker cable from my Acoustic Energy Aego M's I can use instead

Hi,
I got the 662F today and still don't know what mod should I do... MKI, MKII. I will have MKIII in the box to 681 red, but don't know what about 662F. -10dB at trebles (MKIII) is a huge difference and I am afraid of making 681 something like 330 (I have it and not detailed trebles was the main reason why I bought 681). MKII - I see there are -10dB too but the bass isn't cutted. MKI - the schematic doesn't have comparison in frequences. How much trebles are cutted? I am listening to the music on cold Samsung S8500 Wave with 662F, FiiO E07K with -2dB or -4dB trebles and there isn't so bad with sibilances (and they aren't warmed up yet. But yes, I still hear "sssss". I think the 681 are more aggressive with the trebles than 662F). I like the bass, it's very tight, yes, and there isn't too much of it. I like details. I am going to buy some warm DAP in the future, but I need to know what mod should I do to my 662F.

Hey guys, happy new year! Just came here to find out that heliharris' awesome aluminium rings are no longer available. What a bummer! Now that I'm already here, I figured I might share the 3.5mm jack mod I did on my Presonus HD7 (which is supposedly more or less identical to the Superlux HD681). I used this Cordial 3m cable: www.thomann.de/gb/cordial_cfs_3_ww.htmWell worth the 5 euros, just in case anyone is going to order their Superluxes or AKG velours earpads from Thomann and wants to get a decent cable, too.

Do the filter components have to be of high quality (like the ones in speaker crossovers) or will generic ones do fine? I'm asking because high quality components can get rather expensive.

Hi crowbar and welcome! That's a good first post with a decent idea coupled to neat work. Plus we always like a picture of said work, nice one.
@daredvil720, firstly welcome. From memory the man behind the filters is not big on "special" components (though no longer posts here) so would have almost definitely used standard quality but be sure to use the values recommended if you want it to work as intended.

Thanks for the answers. Standard quality it is then.
I'll just make sure I get a few extra more in order to match the left and right filters as much as I can.
BTW what's your opinion on the HD681B? Is it better/worse than the HD681?

I've got the B and it's much more flat sounding, no bass bump. So good for neutral monitoring, with the filter in it to soften the highs, but not so much fun to listen to music true.

Try this mod: rockgrotto.proboards.com/post/124411/threadThis is subjective but tried many different mods and I found this mod best for my HD-662F. Usual mkII mod wasn`t so good because SSsss & harsh high spike is in different location, probably same case with mkIII mod.

Where is the Schematics of the MKII vs MKIII filter mod? I would like to check and see their differences?

Hello, I'm new here and I'm sorry for bad english. I bought a HD681B some months ago, and then I made the filter mod. Thank you for a lot of info at this forum. I would like to change the original cable to detachable cable like your Presonus mod and have a question. What is the type of female jack in your phones? I have some like this hu.farnell.com/lumberg/klb-4/connector-rca-jack-3-5mm-3way/dp/1200144, but this type is too big.

Hello New Here. Bump almost 1 year later. Great thread although a long one. Samson SR-850 One question: Anyone here try the SP mod? If yes any pics on how to do it correctly? I don't want to break anything so, if someone could guide I'd be grateful. According to this article it cuts down on the sibilance: www.audiophileon.com/news/samson-sr850-superlux-hd681-reviewThanks alot.

No, sorry, I wouldn't know what a Samson "SP mod" was if somebody hit me directly in my face with one. I'm sure it's a really important mod for you but I, for one, am not au fait with it. Do a Google search for "solderdude superlux" and you will find what you're looking for grasshopper All the best, Mike. It's all about knowing what to enter into a Google search
