Squeezebox problems

I've just upgraded by squeezebox server on the PC .. and of course I get the normal message to update the firware on the Squeezebox by pressing and holding the nrightness button on the remote control ... well the brightness button no longer works, and yes I have changed the batteries. Anyone have any bright ideas how this can be solved.

I've already reinstalled the old server, but it insists it still needs new firmware!

I've serched the web everywhere .... but I keep getting pages for the duet, and other remotes .. cn't even find an original remote on fleabay!!

So now I have no squeezebox or music!

A quick thing to check before you look deeper. Using a phone camera/digital camera/video camera, point the remote at the camera, depress the offending brightness key. Looking through the camera you should see the LED sender of the remote flash with the key press.
No? try other keys, if they flash ok you're first assumption is correct. If all keys flash then the problem lies elsewhere.

If you have just the one key(or acouple) not flashing the LED then you can clean the remote. Just take it apart so that you can access the boards carbon contacts and the rear of the rubber key mat, clean both of these with isopropyl alcohol. Reasemble and try again.....

The Sqeezebox site lists the backlit one but not the basic one-

I'm away at present but could loan you a remote to get up and going when I get back next Tuesday if it helps.

Thanks guys .. the LED has gone ... I did the 60 mile return, borrowed mates, set the SB to auto update, and will use my iPone (ipeng app) to run the music server from the phon.

Bloody annoying it was to! No music last night!!
