Going by this thread, and what I have heard from Andy Chung at Superlux, the quality of these headphones is pretty consistent.... good manufacturing techniques with a keen eye on quality control..... kinda makes "made in England" sound like a dirty word

That who I got mine from. I would recommend them, 3-4 day delivery and good communications.

Hi Guys, I have been communicating with Superlux the past few days and here are a few snippets which may be of interest: " HD 681 is just the first one to test the market. We will launch more than 4 more models to European market earlier next year. They will be the price killers, too." Awesome "I have personally compared them to AKG 240, Shure 840, Audio Technic AD500, Senheiser HD 280..... To tell you the truth, we can easily beat the premium brands..... "Even better and, on the strength of the HD-681 I actually believe you can "easily" beat the premium brands. "HD 681 has sold so well in Asia now, so we have a little bit capacity problem to supply to other countries.... but this problem will be solved soon"Don't rush it.... good things come to he who waits

I'm very interested in the models that superlux are going to be bringing out. As much as I like my K701's, (especially the detail and wide soundstage), the taut bass sometimes leaves you wanting more.
I'm thinking about getting a pair of closed back headphones next year. If I was to list what was important to me it would be:
1. Circumaural, for comfort, with leather or velour pads. 2. Closed back (open backs like the K701 are nice, but too much sound leakage for living room use) 3. Accurate representation (For some reason a mix of K701/HD250II Linears sits nice in my mind...) 4. Good build quality. 5. 4 core cable, with a pair to each driver, allowing easy conversion to balanced use.
Depending on how the competition goes, I'll get myself a pair of HD681, as enough people are really enjoying them.
It'd be nice if Superlux could give Mike an exclusive on the new European models. How about it, Mr Superlux?

So four pairs of high quality headphones all with a slightly different sonic reproduction for under £80! thats great. Will really help with headphone/amp comparisons as nearly everyone will be able to afford at least one of the superlux range. At last we will know what one persons 'highly detailed with deep bass' actually is! Will help so much
Please let Rock Grotto have first dibs on the rest of the range!

looking at the first pic I would suggest they aquired OEM "blanks",the headset hardware, either from AKG's source (which would be shameful ;D ) or directly from AKG,added their own "twist" via the red trim rings them populated the blanks with their own drivers. If they are a startup or a very small operation the only way you can get to market selling a low priced product AND while making a profit is to be imaginitive,to cut some corners as long as those "corners" are not of the reliability/build quality type.So the next question would be "are the headphones durable ?" Only time will answer that question

which would suggest the AKG/OEM headband re-branding,a nice way to get up and running at speed because it eliminates a very difficult step unless you have a large R&D section

Well we can try but to be honest ? Headphones are painful for to use so unless they have an exceedingly light clamping pressure any use beyond 15 seconds is out. So far the only headphones I can use for any duration surprisingly are my old as dirt,pre-stretched beater cans,my Alessandro MS-1's with "comfy" pads and my Sennheiser MX-"something something" ear buds. I also am leery of any bottom heavy cans or music played at "volume" for the same reasons-pain So while I CAN listen,I am not entirely sure if the prejudices going in (what is comfy vs what is painful no matter the SQ) are the best environment for a FAIR eval Short of it-we can try but no guarantees dude

You won't regret it Ian. I used a black marker pen on the red trim and it produces a passable quick fix. Not as nice as the Aluminium mind you

Ian You definitely won't regret it mate..... they are lovely "out of the box" but, as with any mechanical device, allow them a good 500 hours workout before expecting the best out of them. I can guarantee this will be the best twenty quid you've spent in a long time Mike.
