Hi all,
I’m toying with the idea of tweaking my MF X-DAC and I have compile the following items to change
- 1000UF 16 V Jamicon Cap X 1 - 470 UF 25V Jamicon Cap X 2 - 100 UF 35V Jamicon Cap X 2 - Phillips NE5532AN X 4
I’m planning to swap all the caps with similar rating Panasonic FC Caps and the Phillips Op Amps with Burr Brown 2134PA Op Amps.
Any feedback is recommended. BTW, I have the X-10D Buffer stage modified with Grotto's Caps, Ultra fast Diodes and a Pair of 6H23N Russian Valves used together with a MF A2 CD Player and MF A2 Amplifier.
Cheers,
Ivan

Cheers, Ivan Hi Ivan, Welcome to the forum, hopefully some of the DAC "experts" will chip in here..... it's all about what these components are doing in the circuit, once we establish that then we can decide if we can get better performance by substituting different parts.... no point in just throwing parts into the mix until we understand what those parts are actually doing. I can't see any harm swapping the old Jamicons with, say, Panasonic FM types..... they make a big improvement to the X-Amps..... maybe Leo would like to chip in here.........

Hi Mike,
I'll be upgrading the Jamicon caps with Panasonic FM Caps first. Since the X-DAC comes with the Op-amp sockets installed, I can swap out the NE5532AN and replace it with Burr-Brown OPA2134PA to see how the X-DAC sounds.
Will report back when the mods are done.
Cheers,
Ivan
