My first decent CDP was a Marantz CD65 (original) which I later traded up to a 75DX to gain remote control. That was a damn fine player. A remote control? luxury! What remote control do you reckon is the most collectible / rarest / most valuable?

I'm just not up with times, I must be some kind of freak throwback not to be gay. Gay is the modern way, priests, politicians, big business is done with a wink and hairy arse action on the golf course. No wonder I never got wealthy, what's wrong with me I just can't help myself from being straight!

Mike. I think back in the mid to late 80's (long before the CD7) the position was different. Philips had designed the TDA1541 and knew what to do with it. Marantz was sold as the up market brand but in the early days a lot of the players were still based around Philips units - and as I understand it made in Belgium or Holland. The CD85 & CD94 (Marantz) and CD850 & CD880 (Philips) being early examples of little difference between them. That doesn't mean units weren't made in Holland and then finished in Japan to get the place of origin right !!.
I may well be wrong about all this. It comes from 1984 and speaking to a Philips rep in Holland when I was on holiday. At the time he was very critical of Marantz gear and the marketing hype Philips were putting into it.
I think the latter TDA players are some of the best CD Players ever made, particularly when they have the non-oversampling mod and (if a player) an uprated clock. The only downfall is they are redbook only.
