ematech Don't forget that the PSU PCBs (or similar size alternatives) and JLH PCBs as shown in my photo will also be required, or combined PSU and JLH PCBs as designed by Bill. rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/10309/power-supply-jlh-combination-pcb If you wish to include it all in a 1U rack case you will need to use the separate PCBs as per the photo. Bill will be able to arrange a small group buy of the 2 special metal can dual transistors per PCB. You will need to ensure that all electrolytic capacitors are the correct way around, and all other components used are at their correct locations before soldering them in, as some of the copper lands are quite small, and component replacement MAY cause damage to the PCB tracks. Regards Alex
Are this the 3-4mm thick PCB from the group buy? This thicker PCBs I have. For the JLH I have single and dual (+-V) PCBs For the PSU I have two kits from Jaycar (standard +-15v and +5V)

Hi Friedrich,
These new boards will be of standard thickness (not extra thick like you have)
For the JLHs my personal preference is to use the singles so that you can place their outputs very close to the inputs on the amp boards.
The Jaycar PSU kits are usable here with a little modification outlined in this thread somewhere. I will most likely use mine (already assembled and tested) for the new build.
Did you never use your 3-4mm boards?

Hi Friedrich
As Chris said, the boards are thinner, and 1.6mm thick. The originals looked great, but the extra thickness caused problems with component replacement such as the 100uF electrolytic capacitors if they go leaky. Bill has also arranged for these new PCBs to use 2oz copper instead of 1oz copper .
Kind Regards Alex

Hi Chris Will members be able to obtain the original R.G. designed single JLH PCBs ? We should be able to organise buys of groups of 10 dual JLH PCBs from Greg Erskine, with direct delivery to the person ordering them from the PCB maker. Likewise with the new improved PSU PCBs that are identical in size to the original Silicon Chip design. Bill may be able to organise this with Greg , as he is doing the organising this time around ? Greg's PCBs are likely to cost around $2.50 each in quantities of 10 , plus P&P. Kind Regards Alex

Hi Alex,
I've had a search through but cannot find a reference to where Will had the blue/red issues printed up. Certainly not in a "JLH" thread, maybe lost in one of the other project threads. I have a PDF copy of the layout but guess that's no use to the PCB printers. If anyone can remember or has a record of it we would be able to approach directly and print another run.
Failing that, aren't Gregs ones splittable to singles?

If they were done at the same place as the Class A PCBs, they may have the Gerbers on record still too, like they did with the Class A PCBs ? Greg's present dual JLHs aren't readily splittable , but need a steady hand with a hacksaw to separate them, although that may be possible with a future order ?
Kind Regards Alex

Hi Alex,
Just fired that off. I too wonder if Gregs boards could come with a factory scoring down the centre to make an easy break point?
Cheers,
Chris

If I had Greg's dual JLH boards I could cut them in the shear we have in the shop in our development. I have the artwork for them but do not want to get involved etching them myself as I will not have any facilities to do so once we move.

Huzzah! The company that produced the single JLH ripple eater boards, essential for this build, have isolated the correct files for a repeat printing of circuit boards. If you use these single boards you will require a set of 4 boards per complete amplifier. Therefore, if everyone taking amp boards required these we would have a current total of 10 amps being built making 40 boards minimum. I would, however recommend filling your boots with spares for future projects, remembering to buy in pairs. I did so last time and only have the one set remaining. They are brilliant for the power supplies of all sorts of projects and have a wide voltage range capability. If demand is sufficient I will make a separate thread for this. They are not expensive but I won't know a final price until I have an idea for the total required so please register your intetest ASAP. Below is a fully populated single JLH board. Then a bunch of them!

Kind Regards Alex
P.S. Did you try soldering a surface Mount ES1D diode across the well out of spec. SF12 diodes underneath the Preamp PCBs ?

Current state of play on Group Buys:
Amplifier boards; (2 required for each build) Sandy K x 2 cj x 2 Pink Floyd x 2 Bill W. x 4 Arjen x 2 freddypipsqueak x 2 ematech x 2 malrdaw x 2 Radius x 2 Pingu x 4
JLH PSRR single boards; (4 required for each build and useful for other projects) SandyK x 8 cj x 8
LS devices; (early days here, not sure if GB is on, 2 pairs required) Arjen x 1 set (2 pairs)
Hi Alex,
No, not yet. When I get the front panel sorted I'll crack on.

I sent the attached to Bill this morning in an email. The only way to source these devices readily (LS313 and LS352, and at a reasonable price is to obtain them from Bill via a Group Buy. I already have a spare set from a previous Group Buy.

The total of AKHA boards now stands @ 26 boards. We will be closing the group buy for the AKHA boards Sun. night. I will order the boards on Monday June 1st. I will be paying for the boards myself & them PMing everyone once the boards are here & I can get the correct postage for each member. At that point I will send a P.M. w my Pay Pal address & the amount owed.
The boards will then be shipped; unless you also need the LS 352 & LS 313 dual transistors. If you have any questions Please P.M. me. Bill W.

JLH group buy
Any takers on this, so far just me and Alex.
4 are required for each build and make a very important improvement to the quality of power reaching the amp boards.
