I'll keep this short: in 1969 a man and his band named James Brown & The JB's once made a recording that started my quest in finding audio nirvana. This resulted a recording called "Funky Drummer". 9:13 minutes of epic funky grooving that reduces all pleasure in my favourite drum solo. I will not forget the name Clyde Stubblefield. "Don't turn it loose. 'Cause it's a mother" When Maceo makes his solo I get the feeling I'm born in the wrong age.
All this through a simple CD-player + amplifier + HD250 II
Album: James Brown "In The Jungle Groove", the 2003 reissue.
Right now "Get Up, Get Into It And Get Involved" is playing, a great example of James getting his Rock & Soul moment. I guess it's clear now why I've chosen my alias here. May your Sunday be Funky and Groovy...

Canadian Brass have long set the standard for brass quintet performance. This Lady Gaga arrangement is a bit of a novelty; check out the low bass. This is representative of their 'normal' repertoire: See more of their recordings on the Opening Day label... available as MP3 or 16/44 FLAC downloads. For example I purchased and downloaded today: www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Opening%2BDay/ODR7330Listen to some of these samples on some open-backed 'phones.. is it me or do these recordings sound a bit (or a lot) binaural? Just going downstairs now to check it out on the 'big system'. Derek

A different kind of brass. Today is my country's National Day. On a serious note, this post is still on a different kind of brass. Long time no listen and so .............

Feeding my brain an overdose of break beats is a pleasure I missed for a long time... Time to make some new playlists.

I've gorn a bit 'eavy tonight and revisited a band I had written off due growling vocals. Mastodon are a metal band with a touch of finesse. Their earlier output, for me at least was sullied by the afore mentioned vocals. Their two latest outings have only a small dosage of this lurgy and far better for it. I have The Hunter on now, as long as they keep that Sanders guy away from the mic all is well! (shouldn't he be frying chicken instead )

Well, as promised when I hear potential in something new, I will "advertise" here: One that I had heard from my stack.

Frankie Goes to Hollywood. 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome'.
It's a lovely, indulgent album and the band's sheer enthusiasm screams out. Those delicious bass riffs. What a player.
One of my favourite old bands from the charts beyond.
One I'd have happily defected to.

Baxter? Rolf Harris' relative or was it Edna? I saw Edna last December on his last show. Outrageous. He's retired now and listening to Audio Technicas.

I've had a couple of albums by Don Cabellero kicking around for years as I like his drumming, on the edge of being out of tune/time but never actually is ( quite mad to watch too! ). Although classed as rock I'd pop them more in a prog-rock meets free jazz area. An early example (my introduction) I've only recently found there was a reform and a couple of newer albums which I'm enjoying right now

Frankie Goes to Hollywood. 'Welcome to the Pleasuredome'. Oh, one of my favourite album to demo. Ya, ya, Relax ............ ;D One I'd have happily defected to. Still can. If I'm not wrong, they have reformed and went to Japan minus one stubborn guy which I highlighted last them. So they need one more as a replacement if they had not found one yet. What player they are looking for, you have to email them or call them.
