I just purchased a pair of Russian 6H6N for my x10D and they do sound much better. My wife who could careless if i was using wired coat hangers as speaker cables was impressed with the sound quality. I didn't even mention I changed anything. Now my problem is they are way too tall for the enclosure. Looking to drill holes for them to peep out.

Hi Alfred, Not as easy as it sounds to drill those holes.... you'll need to invest in a 30mm hole cutter for your drill and make sure the holes are "bang on" with regards to position..... you will have to measure everything precisely. You are THEN faced with the problem of locating the valves into the sockets, you will have to feed them through the holes and go blind into the socket. It would be a LOT easier relocating the X-10D board into a taller enclosure or just run it "naked" Problem with running it naked is it tends to pick up all sorts of noise... I really do understand where you're coming from but shoe horning a size 12 glass foot into a size nine metal shoe is never going to be easy and what you gain on the swings you will end up losing on the roundabouts (probably a foot). It's a shame that we can't just chop the nipple off the top of the 6H6N.... I've got a couple of hundred of the bastards in a box somewhere and they are of as much use as a chocolate fire guard is in the X-series. Are you positive that the 6H6N actually "do" sound better than the stock JAN 6922 or are you maybe experiencing the "fresh valve" versus knackered valve euphoria? Mike.

I'll probably try to see if i can make an enclosure our of acrylic cylinder tubes. If I can find one with the right diameter, I'll post a picture. Thanks again
