Nice piece of free software for speaker designers:
"Sonic beacon is a PC-based test and measurement system for the testing of loudspeakers using a low cost microphone, preamp and a commercially available Windows multimedia sound card. Sonic beacon will perform impedance, frequency and phase response, harmonic and inter-modulation distortion, sensitivity as well as other FFT and real time analysis tests, Sixteen bit sampling rates up to 192 kHz and FFT lengths up to 128K points are supported."

Used as stated with a signal source and test-mic/preamp set you can not only use this for speaker design work but for room testing as well allowing one to EQ (with enough imagination FIR Filter DSP Auto-Room-EQ) the in-room response of you commercial systems as welll.
a good micset for the DIY crowd is this puppy (scroll half way down) :

Also on the page are a series of test tones-test signals, both hardware and software or you can buy the CD here :
www.linkwitzlab.com/burst-cd.htm
Makes for a DIRT CHEAP but highly functional test set than any loudspeaker based system user should find an nice addition to their system while for the speaker "designers" among us a painless way to a full feature design lab that can test the actual driver parameters for plugging into a Speaker CAD program, test the proof of concept "box" for tweaking the final design then once in system fine tune the system (EQ) or the room (passive EQ-acoustic treatments) for real worl use
