Alex,
There are 10 in total. They appear to be in the signal path at various points from what I can gather trying to trace the circuit. I have replaced these like for like from the original Teapos, and thus I would guess Mr. Michaelson considered they should be non-polar. One near the volume pot is bulging and one near the opamp. If I could replace them with polarised it would be easier but I am unsure if this would be appropriate. I would take a photo and show you the position but my camera's on the blink. If you refer to my photos earlier in the thread you may be able to pick them out. I'm not having much luck at the moment with electrical gear! (Having said that some of it has been of my own doing, doh!)
Cheers
Matt

Matt The 2 that appear to be bulging, are you able to measure the DC voltage across them ? Alex

Alex, I'll see if I can measure it tomorrow somehow. The problem being the amp is one large board. The large heatsinks would need to be removed from the Darlingtons, the volume knob and shaft would also have to come out and the speaker output leads unsoldered. To get to the underside of the board at the caps in question may not really be possible whilst it's powered up, at least not as far as I can see or without risking frying something. I only noticed the caps appeared to be bulging after I'd put everything back together barring the case, sods law I suppose. Assuming it was merely the quality of the caps that was suspect, would these be suitable do you think: www.hificollective.co.uk/components/mcap_bipolar.htmlI didn't notice them before but it states they are more for crossovers etc. I presume they would be suitable though? Cheers Matt

Matt Should be O.K. if they are physically suitable. Mundorf has a good reputation. Alex

Good evening all.
The balance in my A3 has shifted once again. This time it came with a bit of crackling when using the volume control so I presume the volume pot is the problem. I have identified the pot as an ALPS RK18112MC, motorised 50k dual log (the pot itself is black and quite small).
The problem I have is sourcing one, I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get one?
Barring this, the ALPS RK27 will fit but only in the non-motorised version as the depth is different and the layout of the A3 will not permit using the motorised version. Would the "Blue velvet" be a worthwhile upgrade over the standard A3 pot or whilst I'm about things should I possibly go for one of the better reviewed Noble's or similar?
I would use a stepped attenuator but there isn't the room. I'm not really too bothered about losing the remote volume control, accuracy and longevity are more important.
Any ideas/advice would be welcome.
Cheers
Matt
