my all time favorite speaker site melhuish.org/audio/Every type of speaker system I like not a Quad ESL 57 or K-horn is here and most dirt cheap plus easy to build. ever hear of Cain & Cain ? check out the early version of what went on to be a hugely successful design : melhuish.org/audio/DIYTQ8.htmlwant a bit more slam ? no problemo melhuish.org/audio/DIYTQ8.htmlhow about a nice room diffusor panel that works as wall art if you like that sort of thing ? melhuish.org/audio/DIYOT3.htmlor a nice cheap extension speaker for the bedroom or workshop or even as a surrounf channel speaker ? melhuish.org/audio/DIYBX16.htmlfrom the forum area there is a really nice add on piezo super-tweeter pod project useful for adding that last bit of highs to a full range driver fullrangedriver.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=164and finally there is the project gallery where you can find everything from the normal fostex/jordon/etc full ranges in conventional cabinets to the truly "out there" designs such as this one : all in all a very cool, very informative and extrmely fun site.Had the Rickmonster Seal of Approval For broken links use the wayback machine, still there

Woof!
That TQWT rear-loaded horn is a great idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that, being familiar with the concept - it's so annoyingly simple and elegant. Maybe because I'm not quite so simple and rather awkward.
If and when I have the space for 6' floorstanders, I shall be having a go at something like that.

for something a mite smaller do a search on the "Buschorn ll". No bass monster but a damn nice all around performer that can be built in a weekend with a circular saw

Going to build these....http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker17.html Iv'e got the parts, not exact xover parts by make, but of coarse values, just using bog standard High Power Ceramic resistors. Was going to buy Mills Non inductive resistors , but £8 each, might have made a difference to sound?

I will go with the resistors i bought, shouldn't make much difference, and Zaph who designed the speaker doesn't use anything fancy. I hope they sound good, i always wanted to build something from this site and as i already had the tweeters from another project, i thought this design was the cheapest way to go, Midrange were £54 each. Though i would have liked to build these ..http://www.zaphaudio.com/SR71.html or www.zaphaudio.com/ZRT.html Midrange were £54 each

My eldest lad is getting a hi-fi from Santa this year, and I keep looking at diy speakers. I really like the idea of a 10yo having a pair of floor-standing speakers! As a really inexpensive way of doing it, there is an interesting thread Cyburgs Needles The original driver used was a Visaton FRS-8, which CPC electrical sell for £7-ish. Other people have used much more expensive drivers and experienced an increase in performance. It's not going to beat a Naim DBL or anything, but as a intro to speaker building, it looks like a good start.
