I know the .WAV file do not have a 'real' tag but how can I make sure that all the information that is needed for a good search (like Album Title, Track#, Track Title.....) is there.
When ripping my own CDs for PC listening - just getting into that thing - there is sometimes parts of the info missing.
How do I insert/add this info later. The Tag-Tools I use for MP3 don't do anything to my WAV files.
Is there something out there?
Stefan

Do agree... Flac (or even WavPack) is the way to go...
But for the tagging - try mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html).
Very powerful and customizable. I could not believe it, but beside filling your CD info and art directly from AMG, MusicBrains, Discogs, Amazon... the latest beta (http://www.anytag.de/forums/index.php?showtopic=57) allows you to attach album art also to Flac files (?!?).
Highly recommended.

Been using mp3tag for quite some time . My original question was for the tag editing of WAV files though... Won't happen really. I have downloaded and testet a new FLAC codec yesterday for my dbPowerAmp tool. Compared to the previous codec it creates even smaller files. A bit scary since it is supposed to be lossless faudrei = V3? Stefan

Yep Stefan... FauDrei is V3 :)
To bad that this is almost everything I know in German... Kind of long story - let's say just that my nick originated from my written signature... and that I do have a V2 and not V3 (X-Can that is).
Back to topic... Take EAC, rip a track to wav, take Foobar2000, convert wav to Flac, still in Foobar2000 - convert Flac back to wav (but with a different filename), compare wavs. They should be exactly the same.
Personally, I prefer WavPack but have to admit that Flac improved lately and is de facto standard in lossless audio. Still in the process of archiving my CD collection (cca. 600 CDs) on DVDs in WavPack/Flac format with all possible tags (AMG), cue files, album art, ReplayGain... you name it (in the same time creating Nero m4a equivalents for iPod/iTunes). In such a process you do realize that your precious collection DO have unreadable/suspicious tracks and that formats like WavPack (Flac?) have some kind of error recovery which may help in such cases. The only drawback is not being able to play them back through my good old (modded) Marantz 63SE (and X-Can V2, of course), but I foresee a nice USB DAC in my near future... ;)

...after pressing "Post Reply" realized that you (Stefan) ordered dddac (USB DAC) two weeks ago...
Once you have it up'n'running, could we please have a couple of words from you on this promising piece of HW? (hope Rickmonster will not pick me for saying that) :)
Thanks in advance ;)

to be honest mike there is a lot to be said for using your computer as another audio "source".Does not have to replace your CDP as "primary" source but can be in addition to.what does computer as source bring to the plate ?
Jukebox for one.
Kinda sorta like a multidisc CD player but better than any multi-CD player i have ever heard if the output is through a USB interface and bypasses the Windows mixer by using ASIO and the Foobar 2000 V 0.8.3 as the media player.
Another use ?
Whole House Streaming Music
I am not an audio snob about any one format or method so FM Radio,open-reel and cassette analog tape,Vinyl discs,XM digital radio (Direct TV feed),DVD AND VCR,computer...ALL have a place

I've been using EAC for ripping for years now. Only to make compilation CDs for 'on the road'.
It should make no difference whether I use Foobar200 or any other software to convert WAV to FLAC and back since all the calculation is done by the CODEC - right?
So, what's it gonna be WAVPack or FLAC. Haven't started really yet...

Yep - anything that can encode/decode(/play?) Flac/WavPack/Alac/Ape... should do it. Mentioned Foobar2000 because it is pretty simple & elegant option (and because I use it . Have read somewhere that someone took a wav file and converted it to Flac, took this Flac file and converted it to WavPack, took WavPack file and converted it to... well, you guess the concept. I think 5 or 6 lossless encoders were involved and in the end they decoded this last encoded file to a wav which was, you guess, the same as the original... So Stefan, don't be afraid, go ahead - choose your poison.
