Nice price!
Yes it probably is a big bang for the buck. But for me it is the same problem:
1: It is not a brand 2: It looks extremly ugly.
The point in nr 1 is important for me, as I said before. It has normally higher resale value, and well, PS Audio, Krell, Electrocompaniet makes higher quality stuff compared to the 1 'man' product like Woo, Heed, etc. I have never in my life seen a 'cheaper' innside build than Heed. Have a look at the innside of the PS Audio headphone amp. That is something else.
But well, it's all subjective. I will stick with English / American hifi brands for still a while to come, but China will probably, and are allready making some very good 'bang for buck'. This competition will bring down price on the american/english hifi once more, and well, I will then probably still keep buying them.
The big 'brands' have alot more research power than the 1 'man' designers and producers.
anyways, nice pictures you had there.

Heck, buy it used and save a few bucks. I agree with you but the man wants " brand " baby and as we all know brand is more important than SQ Got to agree it does look pretty ugly but that doesn't mean jack shit as long as it sounds good.... I have heard many a good looker sing a really duff tune in my time.

I am interested in the looks. It's not even a wife factor. If it looks ugly on the desk, I will not buy it. Simple as that. The Heed looks OK, outside!
Hifi is not a low cost thing to be in really. Head-fi.org is not for me, everyone is discussing the $500 dacs/amp's all the sime. They will more or less be the same. I am much more interested in the PS Audio DAC Link III with Cullen Mod Level 3 for $1600 shipped to norway in 220volt edition.
The Dac in that cheap box is probably OK. I do though think that Krell and MF has alot more knowledge in making good DAC's. So well,
The tube route will be headphone only(no tubes in a livingroom stereo), and it will be Musical Fidelity X-series.
If I go Solid State for the headphone, I will go for the PS audio headphone amp. It's around $850 now. Not very expensive in europe because of falling dollar, and that thing is better than everything that is discussed on head-fi. Head-fi is too 'cheap' .... ;D

I just installed Vista 64, I was running Windows XP 64.
I am using some very cheap headphone stuff now, since I am abroad. Just a creative £10 headset into the analog out on the laptop. Vista is just soo much better sounding than XP 64 was.
That thing really shows how EXTREMLY bad the XP 32 / 64 kernel mixer is. It is really a big difference, even on mp3 and bad gear. I am not kidding. USB DAC's will really take off once Vista is taking hold in the marketplace. It really is excellent with audio compared to XP.
Being interesting to try the canv8 on Vista then. Maybe it was the kernel mixer which killed the soundquality for me on the x-dac?!

MY GOD. The Vista audio stack, it is just sooo much better. It can't be explained. Go and listen.... f**king hell. People are really missing something when using XP and computer as source.

I believe that Fubar 2000 and Winamp both have options or plugins that let you bypass the XP kernel streaming.
Maybe someone that uses their PC as a source can elaborate.

You do not need golden ears to hear this. Vista vs atleast XP 64(which might have the worst kmixer ever) is night and day, even on my laptop using very cheap audio hardware!! You know, I also used ASIO with foobar32, it was no difference. The difference on Vista is major(it sounded thin on XP). But I wonder if this very bad audio translated and went through with the SP/DIF. If so, I am REALLY in for a treat when using the x-can v8 and the integrated usb dac, compared to the system I had, as the OS was the fault of it not sounding good. Like I said, even a £50 DVD player straight into the x-can V3 sounded better , than via the expensive X-dac v3!!! Really looking forward to this.... Mike, please contact me regarding shipping info! K

What is the name of those very big headphones which that yellow bear of yours is wearing? Are they good? (They are big, square and grey/black)... Electrostatics? My friend just orderd the $1500 Ultrasone Edition 9 headphones, I guess they will sound good..

I posted this on another site, but I thought you'd be interested too. I got one to try out from my dealer. Not burned in yet of course, but I couldn't resist to do some listening. Tried my K340 (Headphile modded), HD650, DX1000, Darth Beyers, W10VTG and PS-1. Compared with old X-can v3 (Pinkie modded) and Corda Prehead MKII SE. First reaction after one hour: THIS AMP IS NOT GOING BACK TO THE DEALER!
Keywords: power, detail, dynamics, separation (together that makes "good articulation", which I find very important) and POWER. The ease and authority with which this amp handles both the PS-1 and the K340 is astounding...

I have the v8 in my possession and , IMO, it's MF's best head amp yet if solid state bass / valve mids are your forte..... unfortunately or fortunately (whatever way you look at it) I am now supposed to be on holiday and won't have the opportunity to get down with it fully until autumn....
When I say "get down with it" I mean listen to it over a prolonged period and get used to it..... NOT review it from cold and class it as an "accessory" like the £5.00 a pop mags do..... I refuse to rush the brush these days as "instant" impressions are not always lasting impressions even though they reckon "first impressions" are lasting impressions...... not with audio.....
I've been bombarded with "do you have a mod kit for the v8?" "what does the v8 sound like?" "Is the v8 better than the v3?" type questions and I refuse to answer until such time I've had the opportunity to live with the v8.
I could easily go down the "buy this v8 mod it will make your v8 sound like a v16" route but that's not the way I operate. Mods for mods sake, accepting money for no reason...... not my style (I like to sleep at night) when and IF improvements to the v8 are necessary I'll shout from the rooftops.
Let's get to know the beast before we start expecting miracles from it.......

it's always either hotter than hell or colder than hell frozen over here, with some breaks in between.
