These valves are astounding Ian, I slotted them into a V2 about an hour ago and even more of a revelation in the V2 than the V3. I jest not, these guys register 10 on the wow factor scale.... this is an entirely different amp I'm listening to now.... maybe not so different but without doubt bags more of what I like pummeling my ears. These are the best valves I have ever heard in the V2 / V3 and streets ahead of 6922 Mullard / 6N1P-EB / Amperex Bugle boys / 6H23-EB / Sovtek 6922 / JJ E88CC etc.
No competition, these are ELECTRIC and ENERGETIC and totally transform the X-CAN V2 (V3) (V2 more so) into world leader class... seriously they are that good.... I wouldn't have considered ever paying £60 for a pair of valves but after hearing these...........
Mike.

Hi Pinkfloyd, Ah ha Grasshopper you like them, Confucius likes things that sound good. Him has good ears ah? No need for green morphic foil then? Thank you for the compliments Mike, there is no need to send the National 6922's back, consider them a prezzie from Aussie land, and my appreciation for all the free info you have provided many of us. I found a stash of them some months ago from an ex-telecommunications company All in pristine NIB NOS condition. :DWhen I listened to them I had to have them, these are a kick ass valve. The most outstanding feature is they are dead quiet in the circuit & have a very accurate soundstage. If you want some be quick here is an auction: cgi.ebay.com.au/6922-6DJ8-ECC-88-NATIONAL-4-TUBES-NOS-NIB_W0QQitemZ330084904253QQihZ014QQcategoryZ50598QQssPagI have operated on the PSU of the V Cans: Upgraded to UF4007's & caps I have put some Black Gates in the PSU & coupling positons I have yet to change the film caps to polyprops. I'll put in heatsinks when I get them. regards Ian

By the look at the picture they are probably Tungstrams, the picture is hard to see into the build of the valve. What I cannot see is the halo ring & there is a lot more getter on the Gold Line valve than on mine. They appear to be short plates like the ones I have. The gurus on the asylum may be able to confirm it for you.
Can someone please tell me how to post a picture directly to the post & I'll stick one on for you.

So what's so special about these tubes? Ebay Link Here... costly at 90 quid opening bid!

I guess that guy paid to much for them to begin with, & is trying to get his dough back. The printing is not clear enough to ask a premium for, as he has likely realised they were pulls from someone else's gear. A good close shot of the pins would give you some idea. The Siemens 6922 is a bloody nice tube, sparkly highs, clear midrange but a little light on the bass. Long life as well. I guess you could voice your amp mods around them & they would be near perfect if you loved them that much. Being a bit like a German they lack that tube warmth, that seamless decompressed spacial sound, that you can get addicted to. Basically they lean towards a solid state sound rather than tube.

Sounds like a little project might be to get a list of 6922 EC88 etc and compare notes - longevity, cost, expected life kinda thing!

They're right enough but made in Russia instead of Made in Japan. Apart from that they look fine LOL ... so ...mental note ... update ebay search to include the word japan ;o) for 18 quid the pair it will interesting to match them against that pair of russians you sent. Must remeber to IM you about that little project later ...

Hmmm I think you bought some Sovtek's there Sol. Just be aware that National tubes could come from anywhere: Japan, Russia, Yugo, England. They also had a bad habit of not sticking the right country of origin on them.

Just picked up a pair of the Nationals on Ebay .. I do hope they are the right ones! Ebay item 140088360605Mental note number two ... before leaving feedback check the feckers actually work! Gawd damn it I hate getting ripped off. They arrived beautifully packed - and in a fit of stupidity, I left feedback. However one channel was dead, the other only worked for only about 10 secs before complete silence. Was confused for a while thinking it was the board when I swopped back in the original valves, which also are dead (but they been lying around on my work surface for some time). However I swopped back in the "Russians" from Mike and was rewarded with two channel sound in it's normal richness. So that will be a nice email explaining the situation - see where we go from there.

Hi Fergus, Personally I don't buy anything from Asia & thats part of my backyard, you pay good money & either don't get the goods, or they a rubbish. If you get them let us know if they make any improvement. I have the silver after market cord from; www.revelationaudiolabs.comIt is more expensive but one I very happy to keep. The only thing I didn't like about it was the miniature bible that came with it. They have probably been blessed by the Archbishop to make them sound more heavenly.
