If anyone is interested there is a seller in HF who has a V2 for sale for $130 USD. I would gladly buy it and ship it to an interested party. Cheers. That equates to around £82 GBP.... a very good price "if" you live in the States..... what are the internals like Miguel? I have bought a few V2's which are immaculate on the outside but pretty "scorched" inside...... I will ask for pictures from the seller and get back with you. Thanks.

31st October 2010. Chris Topley's X-CAN V2. It hadn't been working for a few years (bulging caps etc.) so I've fitted the cap upgrade kit and it's now as good as new,,, actually, it is better than new. It's a lovely clean example (mint inside and out) so well worth saving I fitted panasonic FM, WIMA, UF4001 diodes, Samwha VA, 1000uF NP output caps, a new pair of 6H23N, 47K gain mods, new headphone socket and new quad phono socket.... sounds superb!

....I had to go into town today because I had a Doctor's appointment.... it was pretty uncomfortable travelling in on the bus but not too painful He got me on the bed (or whatever it's called) and checked my reflexes (hitting the knee and feet with a hammer).... moved my legs about and generally prodded.... asked me a few questions and then told me I had "Lumbago"...... Reckons 4 to 6 weeks for it to clear up and the best thing to do is "keep moving"..... he prescribed 2 x 50mg of Tramadol (Ultram) four times per day and also ibuprofen gel. .....Mike. Hi Mike - sorry to chime in unannounced but I feel your pain, having had various lower back problems for 10 years. Seen the amount of work you've done on these great M-F products (I own/have owned a few of their amps, a CD player and about to get a V-can to test out) --- so I felt obliged to register and offer my experience as a patient who has suffered with torn muscles, syatica, sacral joint problems and other (often self, i.e. sport-induced) lower back aches/sprains and pains. If I were you I'd take the advice of others and not rely on it to "clear up" as the doctor suggests. I've been to the GP, physios in the UK and here in NZ, osteopaths in the UK and had massage, manipulation and am on a course of massage/acupuncture at the moment having twisted my back at work. Not good as I'm self-employed and rely on being on site or in front of a computer for a living. Excuse me if I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs but... When you "do" your back often it ends up in spasm as the muscles are contracting the "wrong" way due to the nerves being affected by the back condition, in my case the back tends to pull the hips out of kilter and it all goes wrong from there. That spasm and mis-alignment results in further pain and lack of movement. Good manipulation/massage/acupuncture can free that up and get you moving far quicker and improve your posture to help prevent ongoing issues - your doctor may be able to refer to a physio/osteopath. Also with lower back muscle problems icing the affected area (in line with the R.I.C.E. guidance) will also help as it improves circulation and healing - in fact the osteopath used to self-administer that when he knew he'd "ricked" his own back. Ice and the manipulation has certainly helped me along with some excercises, including the yoga "child's pose", "cat" and "dog" combination. They help to reset the back and stretch it out. Again professional advice on what to use is the best way to get it straightened out and keep your back in shape is IME better than the "time will heal" and anti-inflammatories that are handed out by doctors. Make sure you don't overdo the ice though....short periods of the stuff wrapped in a tea-towel is good. Hope that helps and that you are on the road to recovery. Cheers, Ian

Oh dear god it's beautiful! Anxious to hear it... The valves in the picture are a pair I use for the initial "fire up" test.... the ones you will receive with the amp are 1988 vintage (both same date code / from same batch) OTK marked and never used (apart from me putting 24 hours on them to test everything).... I think you'll like the sound All the best, Mike.

Forgot to mention..... (Ultrafast) UF4001 diodes fitted also. They have a faster recovery time than the UF4007

Absolutely no idea but the whole thing sounds absolutely superb. Maybe PinkFloyd can answer this...?

What are the black gizmos stuck on top of some of the capacitors? What I call "Dynamic cap dampers", yup? They are specially made acoustically "absorbent" resonance dampers which, effectively, "damp" the resonance of the capacitor to ground zero.... in layman's terms, they damp the energy from the capacitor's "core"... they null the "excite to bore" ratio and provide a "buffer" which ensures the energy to delivery ratio remains constant, yup? All from the database, database is KING

With technobabble like that to back them up, and no doubt being made of the finest unobtanium, mined by giant leprechauns in the foothills of the Himalayas, I bet they're damned expensive too.
