That's perfectly good Simon, connecting the diode to the next component..... it's more like point to point and some would say "better" than a track.
The loose transistor pads..... flow in a bit of solder (a tiny bit) and you'll find the pads become solid again.
I wouldn't attempt the ALPS pot just yet, those pads are EXTREMELY fragile and require a good knowledge of soldering / desoldering.
If you want to send the amp up to me I'll be happy to fit the remaining parts / check everything out for you free of charge...... all I need are the top and bottom boards.
All the best,
Mike.

my V2 is up and running again tonight (thanks Mike) first thing i noticed is the extra bass slam and silence (when its meant to be silent , of course). i know this amp will now mature over the coming weeks, but (to me) the difference/improvement is immediate. if anyone is considering this upgrade DO IT! dont sell your standard X-CAN/V2 without trying this first (if its just another HP amp you want). to use a phrase (from a program i cant stand!) Mike's mods give the X- series the X factor.

All X-CAN V2 upgrade kits (http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/v2upgradekit.html) will now come with a Jalco Pro headphone socket and a free gold plated quad phono socket as standard.
The website hasn't been updated for quite some time and the 2015 upgrade kit will appear shortly...... extra capacitance in the power section, 1000uF output coupling caps and lots more.
The cost of the 2015 kit will go up by £10 (from 31st January 2015) but if you order before then you will get the new kit at the current price.
All the best,
Mike.
