Hi there, I was browsing the internet, looking for headphone amp kits, and I came across MAPLETREE AUDIO DESIGN (MAD). They produce a range of "wonderful" headphone amps: the EAR+ PURIST retailing at $415, that's about £238; the EAR+ PURIST HD costing around $495, approx £284; and finally, the EAR++II heaphone amp/line pre-amp selling at $615 approx £354. In addition, these amps can be upgraded with "premium components", namely AURICAP film caps and BLACKGATE electrolytics, for between $20 to $90 (£11 to £52). Has anybody out there any experience of MAPLETREE'S AMPS? And if so, what do they sound like? From the customer freeback - and some independent reviewers - they appear to be relatively easy to build, thanks to a comprehensive manual, can drive even the most demanding cans (30ohm/300ohm), while their sound has been described as, "neutral, fast, transparent", "really good solid state" with "warm tube smoothness." Thanks, Fergus

I have heard the MAD amps and was impressed highly at the time considering cost and what you get in the values area these days.No extensive time with the amps but what I heard I liked.
My self designed/built headphone amp has an output stage very close to the MAD amp (12B4,same transformer) and even though I have built many amps since always go back to it if that is any help
