I was going to post the results of using it on the output on the cheapo CS4397 dac, I've wired it as differential input to line output so its directly on this voltage dacs outputs.

Leo This is what I was trying to say.
But then, If there is a problem between the cdplayer and preamp, fix the the problem by doing something with the cdplayer or preamp. ie change or mod(if your capable) the cdplayer/dac or preamp, not just dump something else in the signal path.
"I've no idea why Burson call their thing HDAM" Dubious Marketing? If Pioneer or Sony or any large company did it, then I thing Marantz would do something about it.

I think it would have been better or a least easier if they would have just added a pot/attenuator in the same case and called it a line stage How many of you guys use a passive pre amp? BTW it beats the Kumisa as a pre amp IMO

Leo now that would be interesting. BTW it beats the Kumisa as a pre amp IMO[/quote] Match the input impedance. the Kumisa is dc coupled SandyK "Perhaps because Burson's Chinese designer's and manufacturers don't give aH DAM ? " I used to refer to the Marantz as the "Dam H" circuit.

Right let's get this little bit of red herring out of the way.
a: you will find that they no longer so call it - their modules are now known as "discrete opamps" b: to the best of my knowledge the name was chosen by the Burson team (Melbourne based - not China) based on their respect for the Marantz HDAM units and the fact that this was their attempt to duplicate the effectiveness of those. c: I believe that Marantz did "do something about it" hence the change of description (which occurred over 12 months ago)
Burson audio AFAIK are named from Mark Burson, a member of a Melbourne (Aust not China) group of audio DIY enthusiasts. If there is any Chinese manufacture (not design) then it is a result of outsourcing production of their very popular products, (which include clock upgrades as well). Certainly initially all production of their modules was by members of the group and I know that demand outstripped supply. I know that I waited some months for supply of my clock upgrade module and my opamp replacement modules.
Now, the main argument I am hearing here is that such a product is conceptually flawed, insofar that the issues it addresses "should" be addressed elsewhere. From a purely technical perspective that would be correct, for a technically competent person with time to utilise. From an economic perspective, for those less endowed, the benefits have only to outweigh the cost of alternatives. In that respect, I would question how much of an upgrade could be had for equivalent cost in parts and labour @ say $70/hr. I rather doubt that I would hear as much improvement if I were to send a CDP out to, say, soundlabs for an equivalent value ($wise) in upgrades. I would also question how much difference would be noticed by increasing one's budget for purchase of a CDP or DAC by an equivalent. My own feeling is that an increase in purchase price of an equivalent amount would not return the same sonic dividend. From a marketing perspective, the concept, if flawed, is nonetheless subscribed to by the Musical Fidelity company, who have also marketed a buffer unit for quite some years now.
Disclaimer: the author holds no fiduciary interest in the manufacture or resale of any Burson audio product. He does, however strongly dislike uninformed mud slinging.

Don't worry about it Fanboi, your happy with the Burson buffer, all the people who borrowed mine was also impressed with what it did.
I'm always honest about any product and I personally think this is a decent unit, I've tried mine in various applications, its also handy because it can be used to convert differential to line out The discrete regulated psu is very good, I've tried it as a supply for various other units too

There used to be something on Bursons front page stating that their products was being counterfeited and sold elsewhere

Yes, they look very similar, the question is who brought the thing out first
