Hi guys,
I apologise in advance for not reading all the posts in this topic (I have to go to work in 15 mins) so I do not know whether you find that out or not ...
The cable that Pink showed on the first picture is actually German Lapp CY110 mains cable that is produced in several variants. One that I am using is actually 3 x 2,5. I am using these cables for years and they are excellent value. They cost in Germany about 2 euros per m.
Some Hi End German vendors are using these cables in their units, like: Octave, ASR Emitter, etc.
I compared them with some other mains cables and Lapp bit them with hands down although costing many times less.
Go for this one .... you can find a lot of offerings for Lapp on German eBay ...

I have kimber cables on all my hifi, and once they all burned in they made a massive improvement. As for the mains, the best bet is to make sure your house electrics are fully safe, i have my own megger equipment so i done a full 16th edt test (have to go back to college for the 17th edt). Also make sure your main earth and supplementary bonding is up to scratch, 30ma rcd for sockets (although they degrade sound quality), all wires are tight in there terminations etc. And for diy cables, you must take into account the current carrying capacity, a bs1362 fuse is only there to protect the appliance, russ andrews does some audio quality bs1362 fuses, for audio mains tips i would go to his website for plenty of information thats worthwile looking at, i havent got all night to explain everything, it would take me a few hours to tell you all the mains tweaks and upgrades i have done, but i will help if anyone asks. pjc68

In the UK, look in the yellow pages for your local electrical distributor, the sort of people electricians would buy from. They are quite happy to take Joe Public's money as well, just make sure you specify exactly what you want (Such as the Lapp CY cable) Some names/links to get you started. www.edmundson-electrical.co.uk/www.neweyandeyre.co.uk/www.cef.co.uk/Other electrical distributors are available. Buy your cable at the length you want, buy the right socket for your equipment, buy a MK toughplug (it won't be cryo treated or rhodium plated, but it will cost a couple of quid )whilst you are there, and make yourself a splendid mains cable. Don't do it if you don't know what you are doing! Mains can kill you!

Will, nice find, I didn't know about these. Vphase needs a Spanish wing almost as much as we need them!
The voltage variations here are ludicrous.
Then we just need a completely new grid done properly and everything will be fine.... fades away laughing hysterically over the sound of the asylums' ambulance siren.

It was the energy saving aspect of them that led me to them, part of my job. We use people like EMS (powerstar) and Powerperfector for large (uni's and hospitals) sites. Spending £500k on electricity and getting 10% saving is very appealing. The vphase domestic unit is very new (I'd love to use my house as a live test!), but I wonder how it would affect sound quality, given it's theory of operation?

Right, seeing as i have finally mastered uploading photos for this forum here goes!! I have started to make my own mains cables for low power equipment (cd player, lcd tv, ect) Easy to make and have made a different with the odd bit of interference that i used to get with standard stuff. I start by taking some high grade sat coax that i have been using and stripping the outer sheath off, then i carefully remove the copper braid and the foil screen, chuck the rest away. I strip the three cores out of 1.5mm mains cable and carefully braid them together. Wrap these in the foil and them thread (easier said than done) all this through the copper braid. I connect the three cables as you world normally and atach the screen to earth. I then check them with my old insulation tester just to be sure and then cover everything in clear heatshrink. Pick your own connectors for each end (in the photo they are silver plated) and i normally silver solder the plug and socket on rather than using the screws. I then check everything with a very basic pat tester just to be really safe and the plug in! I noticed that my rega apollo cd player loved the screened cable, much less background noise thank before, but hte main difference wa on my LCD tv. I used to get all sorts of weird things on the screen when the disdwasher was on (machine not wife) but that has all cleared up now! Job done!

Andy Did you take any internal photos before you put the covers back on ? 230VAC is very unforgiving, and I would hate to see inexperienced members try to follow your example without VERY clear instructions. In fact, I would hate to see inexperienced members try to make their own screened mains leads ! Alex
