What's the bass like with the K702? I had the K701 and they were SUPERB in all departments apart from the bass which I found to be quite light. The soundstage was terrific, they had everything going for them but I finally parted with them because I seriously do like my bass
The HD-600 are a good jack of all trades headphone with a somewhat chocolaty sound signature, the bass is a lot more present than it is with the K-701. You'll either love them or loathe them, I always end up going back to them and they're really handy to keep around, very comfy too!
I've had about 7 different versions of Grado headphones and they were all like torture devices, damned uncomfortable whatever pads I used (tried them all including the SENN 414 pads) and that was a big no no for me, if they're not comfortable they aren't going on my head.... simple as that.
The SR325i were absolute pigs on the head, I'd listen for about 15 minutes and that was it..... ear clamp torture devices. You either love or loathe the Grado sound, I quite franky loathe it.... I think they put a D in the name by mistake, they should have been called Grato because they feel as comfortable as a cheese grater on the ears and the SQ is akin to an annoying screechy female (TO MY PERSONAL PAIR OF EARS).
Believe me..... I
tried to find a pair of Grados that were good for me but all of the ones I tried left me seriously underwhelmed. Of course, everybody's ears are different and headphones are not a "one size fits all" type of thing so I can fully appreciate why they have a strong following but, unfortunately, they never suited my ears. Ears are MORE unique than fingerprints, and ears are an audio device, so it's to be expected that each individual pair of ears will hear things differently..... this is why it's essential to ditch those bloody Hi-Fi magazines and make your own mind up what sounds good to your own individual "unique" pair of ears.
It dawned on me in the early / mid eighties..... I was an avid reader of Hi-Fi news / What Hi-Fi etc. and quite a few of their "best buys" sounded like shite to my ears, quite a few of their "award winners" too, and I initially thought that the reviewers were either stone deaf, stoned or getting a backhander from the manufacturer..... nope, their "ears" simply weren't hearing the same thing I was. It was quite the thing back in the day to find a reviewer that "seemingly" knew what he was talking about and stick to him as a reference point.... ie: if he said it sounded good and it DID sound good you'd trust his word.
You'd then realise that other people were saying things like "That Noel Keywood wanker must be deaf"...... nope, not deaf but he was quite close to my "ear print" so I would take his initial recommendation, go to the Hi-Fi shops in Tottenham court road / London and have a damned good listen...... 7 out of ten times my ears agreed with his
The ONLY "best buy" or "award winner" is the piece of kit that sounds the best to YOU.
I don't think the "ears are more unique than fingerprints" subject has EVER been seriously discussed
anywhere (with regard to all of us hearing sound in a different way / our ears are part of the audio system)....... I have been waffling on about it for 30 years but haven't had much feedback, most people think I'm from planet ZONK when I tell them to put some cotton wool in their ears and ask them if they can hear a difference........ oh yes, they hear a BIG difference but that's because they have cotton wool in their ears!
Have a look at the structure of the ear, its complex and constantly changing acoustic pattern (whether that be from ear wax build up, natural ageing of the ear, infection of the ear, hairs growing out of your ear etc.) it is a VERY complex, and constantly changing, audio "essential" that is erm........... priceless and totally unique to every single human being on planet EARTH!
I think that the SERIOUS way ahead, for serious audio manufacturers, is investing in "ear profiling"........ a "selfie" of your ear / if you like.......... No two ears on planet EARTH are identical and this is why there's such a wide range of opinions.
Right.... enough typing for one night, I may lose my fingerprints......... I don't wan't my ears being probed by the ear Gestapo
Anybody willing to take a photo of their ears? I'm going to start a thread regarding this and you'll soon see what I'm talking about...... billions of Humans on planet Earth, no pair of ears the same.
