How much oil do you import into the U.K. ? With the GBP at a 31 year low there could be a lot more pain to come at the petrol pump, where you are already being ripped off far more than many other countries, and all imports are going to cost more as most import prices are tied to the US$.
Your planned holiday is going to cost more too. NEW.
History repeats: First minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon calls for another independence vote. Source: Reuters

Dale Whenever the markets crash badly and stay down for a while before recovering, a lot of retirees especially, and worldwide, who rely on the income from their Superannuation to survive see their accounts drop dramatically, and they don't always fully recover again. This can reduce dramatically the number of years your Super is going to see you out. This happened to me with the last Global meltdown and I never fully recovered, despite Australia not quite going into recession like most other countries did. Alex Rich people making a few quid at computer terminals Alex....... the pound will bounce back in its own time, have no fear of that. The "markets" are just a bunch of louts shifting money about...... you'll notice that GOLD has gone up in price after the result? Don't worry about it...... it will all recover. The UK people have sent out a message and I hope it has a domino effect across Europe. The UK were absolutely fine before entering the European Union (we were once called GREAT BRITAIN and ruled the world) but are now seemingly (according to some) unable to conduct our own affairs? Angela Merkel may welcome rape on the streets of Cologne but I'd rather go back to enjoying cucumber sandwiches on the lawn. A damned good result BUT it all depends on who is going to Captain the ship into the unknown....... that's what this all depends on..... a good captain. David Cameron has resigned, massive respect to the man, and will do his best to harbour the ship in calm waters until his successor takes the helm but WHO will that successor be and will he steer us into a rock? One thing is for sure...... we've voted and there's no going back now..... it's full steam ahead and I only hope the captain of the ship UK has a good crew on board Props to Cameron, he took it on the chin and gave a speech he'd written himself

I don't quite understand it Alex, why did the majority of the Scottish population vote to remain in the EU and why does Nicola Sturgeon want to remain in the EU? I thought her general idea was for Scotland to be an independent country, free from the shackles of "Westminster" and all that but she teamed up with "Westminster" to remain in the EU and now we have voted to leave the EU she is calling for another referendum on Scottish independence but is adamant Scotland did not vote to leave the EU?
I am no political expert but do understand the meaning of the word "independence":
The fact or state of being independent. "Argentina gained independence from Spain in 1816" synonyms: Self-government, self-rule, home rule, self-legislation, self-determination, sovereignty, autonomy, non-alignment, freedom, liberty.
From what I can understand, Nicola Sturgeon wants to break up the United Kingdom and wants Scotland to be an independent country BUT she wants Scotland to remain a member of the European Union? How does that all add up?
The UK voting to leave the EU is now being called "independence day", ie: we will soon be free from the bureaucracy of the EU and free to run our country as we see fit without having to kowtow to Brussels.... theoretically the UK will be an independent country once again. That's true independence isn't it?
Nicola Sturgeon has a slightly strange take on the meaning of independence, she wants Scotland to be independent from the rest of the UK but wants Scotland to be part of the European Union. That just doesn't make any sense, whatsoever, to me and seems to be extremely contradictory. Independence is independence, you can't say you want to be totally independent but insist on receiving a £1,000 monthly allowance from your parents can you?
Maybe I am missing something very obvious here but, for the life of me, cannot understand why Nicola Sturgeon wants to remain in the European Union if an independent Scotland is such a great thing?
My gut feeling is that she will throw a spanner into the works and make it up as she goes (whatever the scenario is) just to further her career and get a foot inside the door that is known as the "establishment". If the majority of the UK had voted to remain in the EU I am confident she would have turned that around to a good reason for another referendum too.
It's a bad sign when a politician doesn't accept the decision of the people and keeps insisting on yet "another" referendum until they get their way. I trust I am not the only person who sees this?

It's not just Scotland, There is now talk of possible Ireland reunification as they want to stay with the E.U. as well. How did Wales vote ? It appears to be a ridiculous situation when the vote in London was to stay too, but the result was turned around by the over 50s in the countryside ! Better get that electric bike out of storage as you may no longer be able to afford petrol either.
Regards Alex
P.S. I did see a chart showing the age and location demographics, as did a C.A. member commenting about this Referendum too, but I am unable to locate it again. The Remain vote was much stronger right across the U.K. for the under 45s. I presume that these figures were obtained from Exit Poll results .

To understand why London would vote to stay in, in spite of the Muslims, one could live in South Central L.A. as I did for a full year. Then it all makes sense.

What a damned shambles this is turning out to be..... the chancellor of the exchequer has disappeared, the PM has resigned, labour politicians are resigning at a rate of knots, that idiot Nicola Sturgeon is waffling on about another Scottish referendum..... nobody seems to know what to do!
This was a serious cock up on David Cameron's part, he should have had plans in force if the country decided to vote to leave the UK but he didn't. He's resigned and nobody has a clue what's going to happen now, we're all at sea on a boat without somebody steering the fekkin' thing which is not at all confidence inspiring!
The lot of them (politicians) are a bunch of lying cock ends and no wonder the UK is in the state it's in today, they just cannot be trusted and constantly pass the buck onto others for their failure to serve the people. I was, and am, very pro "leave" the European Union BUT the bunch of prats who promoted the "leave" campaign now don't seem to have a clue what to do and the prime minister, who wanted us to remain in the EU has resigned...... what a total cock up of monumental proportion!
Oh well...... maybe this will be a turning point for UK politics.

Oh well...... maybe this will be a turning point for UK politics. Mike I seriously doubt that the general public expected these results, and many were too complacent to vote as they thought it wouldn't happen. Quite a few have already said that they were lied to, and didn't fully understand the ramifications. You appear to have had promises made by the Leave side that they clearly can't keep. Personally, I don't think such a close vote on such an important issue should be binding. They should have set a higher percentage for either side to claim victory ? Even with an elected Government with such a small majority, they are often tied up in knots by a few maverick Independents that they rely on to keep them in power. Polls AND elections where voting isn't compulsory can so easily be manipulated by one side or the other that is very determined. That has been shown by the position of Lord Mayor of London. I can understand your reasons for voting the way you did, but are you sure that it wasn't mainly meant to be a kick in the arse for politicians that never deserved anybody's vote ? I would be surprised if Vladimir Putin doesn't have a big grin on his face at the thought of a less unified Europe. Let's hope some other countries don't follow suit and weaken N.A.T.O. You now also have the Sinn Fein leader talking about reunification, and the possibility of Ireland and Scotland requesting membership of the E.U. Let's hope that they aren't accepted, as this will further divide and weaken the U.K. At the moment, the nations of Europe need to stick together if we are to defeat ISIS this century. Anyhow, that's how I see it, and although I have never been to Scotland, the fact that my father and his family were Scottish makes me care very much what happens there. I wonder what Robert the Bruce would make of all this if he was alive today ?
Kind Regards Alex

I have tidied up this thread.
The last I saw , Alan Greenspan, the American economist who served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve of the United States from 1987 to 2006. "Warned that a Crisis Is Imminent, Urges A Return To The Gold Standard"
Mike Are there any further developments from Westminster or Scotland ?

It's a shame that you guys are likely to suffer most initially, but the E.U. did need a wake up call, just as Westminster does for their neglecting of Wales, as I understand the situation "?
