WTF is that? If that was on my finger I wouldn't be taking a photo of it, I'd be running to the hills screaming like a nancy boy!! When it comes to creepy crawlies and flying insects that sting (ie: wasps / Hornets etc.) I tend to either smash them with a newspaper or run away from them in "panic sprint" mode...... that thing looks like a mini "flying" venus fly trap........ WTF is it? Mike.

It looks friendly enough (its face) but that part of it that looks like a venus fly trap just creeps me out...... oh god, it can fly as well........ There is currently an UBER fast moving "micro" spider on my desktop...... it is SERIOUSLY that fast that I haven't been able to smash it on the head for the past few weeks of trying. What worries me is that it may be in my mouth when I'm sleeping...... they reckon that ALL of us will swallow a spider / or more than one (when we're asleep)........ FFS, that "again" really creeps me out mate! I have an UBER fast moving "micro" spider (or possibly a few of them) and he (they) are not stupid..... the second they see you seeing them they are gone, like mini Linford Christies on steroids, any idea of what type of spider it is? It / they (I hope it's just one) is about the size of a pin head (THAT small!) but, Jesus H, can it move! Here is why I appreciate your photography so much Leo........ there is nothing more difficult than capturing insects in image, they will either be fast moving (like the micro spider) or not up for a pose Very easy to capture "static" stuff like buildings / landscapes but when it comes to wildlife / moving / unpredictable insects or animals it takes skill (and timing) and possibly non fear of the insect you are trying to capture on film. Any idea of what this UBER fast micro spider is..... it's seriously fast on its feet? Best regards, Mike.

Hmm, hard to say tbh We have a few different small ones over here , some of our tiny jumping spiders have excellent eyesight and move pretty fast . Most other spiders have poor eyesight and rely on vibration

Nice , especially the dragonfly . Heres a 6 eyed sand spider . the venom is necrotic and theres no anti venom so if you get tagged its goodnight vienna. It's many times more potent than a black widow . Hard to believe something so small could cause such damage , theres very little food in their natural habitat so the venom is strong so bitten prey doesn't get far , luckily their not aggressive and rather run than bite. These come from Chile DSC_6392_DxO by leon kirkbride, on Flickr

Dragonfly, poisonous fly in coffee, poisonous spider. Whoah! equally awesome Dale! I assume you guys are in macro mode when taking shots of these creepy crawlies? That spider I was describing is now an ex spider, it has ceased to be. I said it was the size of a pinhead, it was slightly larger than that....... more the size of an M4 bolt head. Anyhoo........ I normally sleep like a log but last night (early this morning) around 3am I woke up and decided to have a look at the TV....... Rod Stewart was in concert (BBC4 I think) so I ended up watching the entire gig..... not his best if truth be told..... out of the corner of my right eye I detected "movement" on the carpet (the only lights that were on were the glare from the TV)...... I put my bedside lamp on and, by christ, it was that mini fast moving spider wandering about the carpet...... I had nothing to hand to whack it with so I got out of bed with the intention of squashing it with my bare foot..... it obviously KNEW I was after it and started to run about in circles at a very fast rate of knots........ I ended up doing a frenzied "stomp dance" on the carpet and eventually managed to kill it........ I swear my foot must have landed on the little bastard a good few times before I eventually caught it with a heel kick. I've had a look around the general area where I was "stomp dancing" and this is the best I could find: Not the best of photos (poor light) but any ideas of what type of spider that was? I have NEVER seen such a fast moving thing in my life...... it was faster than a vole (if you've seen a vole on the run when you're chasing it with a a shovel you'll know they are bastard fast!)........... I've got a spider in one of the rooms who keeps himself to himself..... he is VERY slow moving (in fact, he doesn't seem to move at all) he's quite content building a white "candy floss" like substance on one of the corners of the ceiling..... I have ZERO problems with him and I would have ZERO problems with a Tarantula Leo (they are docile)...... it's these fast little buggers I don't like, or the ones that decide to absail down from the ceiling before your eyes..... they generally get a good swat from me (or a 3am frenzied "stomp dance") Wasps? don't get me started on those things..... the second I see one I am into "frenzied sprint mode"....... what the hell is their purpose in life other than to annoy? They are like flying David Camerons BUT they sting where is hurts. Mike.

Hard to say for sure, If I could see the body shape and legs its a little easier to identify If it had stood still and allowed me to take a photograph before I killed it then it may have been a lot easier to identify....... I will now refer to it as "fast moving spider" that is no more. Mike.

Is it safe to dance? (without a hard hat on)

"men without hats"..... I still don't think that song has been fully appreciated and was WAY ahead of its time Is it safe to sleep? maybe not? A hard hat may be required to protect you from potential harm whilst asleep....... Is it safe to "live"? Is it safe to be born? I must confess... I have never sported a hard hat and never will! I am a man who refuses to wear a hat! The powers that be would have us all wearing yellow hats..... white hats are only for the elite........ I am a man who refuses to wear a hat!

Mike You may wish to reconsider at least a cap when you get away from Scotland. A sunburnt scalp isn't too much fun when you don't have plenty of hair on top to protect it !

I'm normally in bed around 9-10pm these days, you'll be fine to sleep now unless the spider had laid a sac of eggs before being squashed

I went over the entire joint TWICE with a hoover (Dyson) today. Nearly killed me..... I haven't exercised that much for years.... I actually broke into a sweat hoovering and thought the exertion / chest pains required immediate attention. Thought it a good idea to visit my Doctor: He said 'I'd like you to lie on the couch' I said 'What for?' He said 'I'd like to hoover the floor, the spiders have been freaking the patients out" erm..... I'll get my coat

Great shot , theres a Osprey breeding project at Rutland water so hoping to get there soon as I get a longer lens , the nesting platform are well isolated and a long distance from any viewing area so a good zoom would be ideal.
