Leo, Those are fantastic shots, really awesome! What camera, what type of lens, what speed? I never knew you were a photographer Leo..... those are pretty much pro quality (well, to my untrained eyes). Do you take pics of the other kind of birds too? a bit of candid, nudge nudge, wink wink

Hi Mike, Thanks mate much appreciated , for me its just a hobby and a good excuse to get out at the weekends although I also enjoy macro photography. Birds in flight can be a challenge especially with our weather, think I'm pushing the current kit as far as I can so saving up for a new camera body and lens (D810 or D500 ) . Currently use a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 80-400G , being a zoom its f/4.5-5.6G . I'd love a 300mm F2.8 prime with a TC for a bit extra reach but thats bloody expensive and heavy , thinking of the 150-600 sigma sport for those long distance birds and heard the AF is pretty fast. Static birds are easy DSC_1047_DxO-2 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr DSC_1598_DxO by leon kirkbride, on Flickr This tiny Thrush at quite a distance was more of a challenge DSC_1502_DxO-1_frame01 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr Even managed this tiny speedy bat although its not very sharp DSC_3370_DxO-1_frame01 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr Only tried photographing the birds of the feathered variety

They are the type of photos I'd expect to see on a BBC "David Attenborough" type program...... seriously mate, you have nailed it....... superb (and then some / and you know I mean that)....... You've got the camera but you have something which is a lot more important........ the vision and natural ability to capture the moment...... Awesome!
Best regards,
Mike.

Amazing! I sat down once at the local park at a wooden table, where the seats had wooden slats with narrow gaps between them. I saw something move in one of those gaps, and I bent down to look close and it was one of those tiny jumping spiders. He kept rearing up on his back legs, presumably to scare me off, so I tried to stare him down, and he wouldn't back down! So I gave him the seat... Their great to watch, they have excellent eyesight and the male doing his dance to impress the female is quite amusing to watch. If you wear glasses the male can usually see his reflection so will have a stand off trying to look impressive Lol

I feel quite embarrassed showing my "MACRO" shots of capacitors etc. with my Nikon coolpix P100...... jeez Leo, I would class your photography as "pro" all day long / everyday of the week and I mean that most sincerely (as Hughie Green used to say)..... totally awesome! I can "appreciate" (and ALSO consider Dale's photography as pro grade) but he doesn't do "wildlife"..... to see those animals / insects in such great detail has seriously made my night Leo....... I've got a resident "regular" Pheasant called Henry.... a woodpecker I call Dave, a wood pidgeon I call Norman, a pair of partridges I call Bob and Marge and a WHOLE host of smaller birds (blue tits, warblers, sparrows, grey tits, wagtails, robin (singular..... only one Robin per garden, they are territorial little bastards!!) Absolutely loving your photos Leo, I'll try to get a close up snap of Henry tomorrow...... he's quite happy to come into the kitchen for his seed Mike.

Certainly nothing to feel embarrassed about ,those Raynox 250 clip on jobs are quite handy and should fit on the end of any lens that uses a removable lens cap, only downside is the tiny depth of field but you could get some good close ups of smd parts on a circuit board I'd love it up where you are , we get a few usual birds on our back yard but obviously not alot in Mansfield compared to where you are. I love all birds though and we always have to stop the car if we spot a pheasant whilst out , heres one I got the other year calling out Lol Look forward to seeing Henry DSC_8084_DxO-1 by leon kirkbride, on Flickr
