Just when us smug non-Win10 users thought we were safe! Windows has issued the same spying software (which report back to Microsoft and the NSA) in the form "Essential Updates" (not optional) for 7/8/8.1. They come in the form of 3 or 4 essential updates that most peeps would install without further investigation. I checked my PC and had the normal set of three which have now been removed and "hidden" from the updater. Read all about it hereDodgy mutha f's!

After loading win 7 w service pack 1, I turn off the updates & do not download any of them. I use Avast for anti virus & Malware Bytes for spyware. As I edit video professionally I do not want anything added to the O.S. that might compromise its stability. So I guess I am safe from M.S's prying eyes.
Have no plans to update my O.S.

You're lucky you don't use Apple. They prompt you to update at random times even when you turn all updates off, and due to the way multi-windows computers work, you may be about to click a button on an app to do something you want, and Apple's little update window will slide right underneath your mouse cursor *just* as you click the button you wanted to click, and you click 'update' without being able to pull back.
Then it gets worse - there's no backing up - you can't even reformat. Apple makes sure through their total control of your computer from their servers that you have to stay on the new updated O/S.
