I bumped into this site today; primephonicIt's a classical music site offering the redbook standard in .wav but also 24 bit Flac and DSD. On a quick look through the prices seemed reasonable but I have no experience as to the quality of their product. Just thought it may interest some.

How good is DSD? Is it now the top of the tree?

How good is DSD? Is it now the top of the tree? Hi Nigel I have seen many reports that suggest it is very good. Some even claim that LPCM (Redbook CD) converted to DSD sounds better, yet a few report that it sounds a little too smooth. Like Barry Diament, I have always preferred LPCM over SACD, and Barry still prefers 24/192 recordings over DSD. I think it may have something to do with the low level ultrasonic noise profile of SACD that we don't like that much. Most studios need to edit DSD using analogue mixing consoles , often first recording it to tape in order to do so. DSD is likely to remain a niche product, although any well recorded high resolution material is always welcomed by Audiophiles. Cookie Marenco is a leading proponent of DSD, with her BlueCoast records being made available in DSD. Kind Regards Alex

Cheers Alex. A person with a very good ear advised me that DSD was the dogs testicles.
