I was pulling my comfy cans aprt last night to see if a captive cable mod was possible to replace the faulty sockets so decided to "plug in" with my HD238s instead. These are approx. 3 years old and have been sitting in a drawer for a year or so and have had minimal use.
On grabbing them one foam/leatherette cover of a pad just crumbled away like snow flakes, I stroked the other (hmmmm, leatherette sweety) and the same happened and to the headband cushion. Remembering I'm in hotter climate, is this normal? None of other headphone pads have have died that fast, e.g. PX200 took over 10 years in the same climate.
Maybe I have some nasty knock-offs?

Some of the cheap Sennheiser pads (PX200, HD280, etc.) do crumble away quickly. There could be some factor that accelerates it, but what I don't know.
