Let me know .. I have the new power supply board (2 0z bare copper tracks) plus loads of headphone amplifier boards,
I have a spare brown dog adapter and a couple of normal opa627 chips .. but not the metal can ones as I am keeping those for my next build
regards
Nick

My build should, AT LAST!, be finalized (hopefully) this weekend so pictures to follow............
I have decided to keep it simple and just go with "input / output" so it will be a dedicated, standalone, headphone amplifier with no extras.
Can't wait to fire this thing up!

It's all ready and waiting to go..... just awaiting one of Nick's "board fit" transformers and then I'll slot the PSU board in and fire it all up. I think the standard toroid looked pretty fugly with all those wires dangling about so Nick's PCB mount toroid should look a lot tidier. I have the enclosure booted and suited and I must say that it's one helluva nice / weighty enclosure for the money, I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending it. The only thing that has no relevance at all is the "KREEL" badge..... I was trying to make it relevant to the amp with something like " Kool Rockgrotto Electronic Ear Listen" but that is far too Chinese for me If any of you can come up with something and make it relevant to the amp using the KREEL word then there will be a random prize on its way to you My basic requirement for this build was to make it as neat and tidy as possible and to keep the circuit simple...... input / amp / output..... with no bells and whistles unnecessary add ons. It's certainly going to look neat and tidy under the hood and I have a hunch that it will sound pretty damned good too. Nothing is a "given" in audio land but I think those carbon composite resistors, Ansar supersound capacitors, pure silver "pot and jack" hook up wires, 99.999% OFC screened input cable etc. will give this amp a very organic / natural sonic signature. The proof of the pudding will be in the hearing Anyhoo................. a few pics (minus the PSU board)...... everything still to be tidied up: The amp board fitted and wired into the KREEL enclosure: View from the side: Top (amp board section) view: Pot and Jack solid silver PTFE hook up wire..... I dropped a couple of ferrite beads onto the Jack hook up wires and twisted the pot wires: I'll "hear" how it all pans out, once I slot the PSU board into place, but the next post I will make will be with the amp and PSU board fitted into the enclosure. I decided to keep the wiring all the same colour, so there's a definite "red" theme going on here..... the neutrik latch on the locking socket is also red, as is the front panel LED........ There is only one "R" in KREEL and I'm now thinking it should stand for RED ?

I may swap phone 1 and use phone 2 for the 6.3mm jack (it's closer to the jack)...... drill a new hole and fit a 3.5mm jack socket that will be connected to phone 1.
I don't know ANYBODY who sits listening to the SAME music with a "partner" (unless they are into kinky "shared listening" headphone sex) so two head outs are a waste of space BUT a 3.5mm and 6.3mm socket will make good use of the twin head outs. A 6.3mm to 3.5mm adaptor is an obscene device so may as well make head out 1 a dedicated 3.5mm socket.

Thanks Nick, it will do a turn I'll dress the wires at the final stage and tidy up even further..... that's the initial first fit. Did you post the transformer and board today? If so, I may get this completed on Sunday...... managed to get the grass cut (there was an interval when it stopped lashing it down) so a few hours spare to complete amps and gutters etc. Really living "the dream" aren't we? More like a fekkin' repetition nightmare if you ask me! What's it all about Alfie?

Mike The audible differences may not be that obvious, but you are reducing HF channel separation by twisting both channels together from the volume control to the PCB. 2 lots of 3 wires would give improved HF channel separation.
Kind Regards Alex

Nick, One thing I homed in on instantly was the pot connections going through a screw down terminal block..... those cables should be hard wired direct to the pads..... those terminals are "OK" for PSU hook up duty but a big no no for signal path duty...... YMMV...... Hi Mike Yes totally agree with you on that .. I am going to rework a few areas The pot is going to be changed, and some of the cabling removed and changed and better routing etc and the terminals removed and soldered .... damn it .. see what happens when you rush a build Very nice work.

By the way..... the feet were poached from a Marantz CD-52 Special Edition CD player so this is recycling as it should be.... if you want "same as" rubbish then go with the herd...... if you want 100% unique then have a bit of imagination and utilize what you have to hand.

Hi Mike Love the opamp parking bay ... And look at all the spare "estate" on the board...... we could have multi story op amp parking there if we wanted! How sad am I? I actually "counted" all the opamps I have in my armoury and it amounts to 337 (of one sort or another).......... I'll (for a laugh) take a pic tomorrow with a few "relevant" opamps (that will work in the JLH) and see if the board could free up enough space for all that parking Most people only have one opamp Nick...... It's considered a "luxury" to be a TWO opamp family......... the opamp "in circuit" is the OPA627BM (Metal Can)....... the parked opamp is the OPA111 (metal can)........ both of them are pretentious, highly over-priced buggers, but their metal bodies seem to attract lunatics, people with learning difficulties, people with more money than sense and people who piss their pants when they cough. No, seriously.......... The 111 / 627 should be ideal in this circuit......... a taste of the HOOD! I'll get her fired up tomorrow. Mike.

Bloody typical of this place...... I took the amp "outside" for a few minutes (to get some natural light) and have just "this second" spotted an "incomer"........... I'll blow him out tomorrow (with my breath)....... There's possibly a spider under the op amp too but I'm not man enough to take a look JLH amp with added "insect"....... improved highs and breathtaking organic mids.......
