Bloody grass! Who invented that stuff? I absolutely detest this time of the year because it requires ME to physically "walk" behind a damned mowing machine and be "outdoors", both of which are totally alien to me. Anyhoo...... I went over the grass with the Tecumseh (modded for speed and high decibel) turbo charged mower and then went over it again with the Mountfield mower to hoover up all the trimmings and pine cones...... I've still got to fire the Ryobi 4 stroke strimmer up but will do that in the morning. It was overcast today, a fair breeze so just about perfect for the first cut of the "season" (argh! note to self: a lot more of the same to be done again and again until winter) The sheep were looking at me as if to say "WFT is this nutjob doing? All he has to do is to let us into his garden and we'll gladly do it for free"..... Anyhoo.... a few back garden shots taken with a PHONE..... iphone 5C....... not the best quality but damned decent for a phone.

Did my first mow about two weeks ago. I was putting it off as I deeply fear the annual first mower start-up. Away it went on just the second pull. And so did my petrol strimmer. Neither get any maintenance from me so it was a joyful occasion :-)
You have a great view from your house M. Mine is not bad either. It would be better if the famer didn't leave stuff all over the place. There's a neglected car plus a pile of old blue pipe of some sort. Doesn't he realise the countryside is supposed to be pretty? And why are the sheep in a diferent field this year. Surely he knows we need to watch his lambs. No consideration some people.

Hi Derek, My old secondhand "Tecumseh" mower fired up on the first pull but my brand new Mountfield took about 6 pulls before she fired. The secret with mowers is to completely run them dry of petrol at the end of the season.... the worst thing you can do is to store them over the winter with petrol in the system. Off out in ten minutes to fire the strimmer up..... it's a real bugger to start but once she gets going she'll stay going all day..... a four stroke strimmer. Ah the joys of spring

I need to go to the town hall for a burning licence (we all have to outside of the proper winter months due to the very real danger of run away fires) for all my cuttings and prunings. I've piles of the stuff everywhere and we're not allowed to "dispose" of it. Unless we use the really hardy stuff lawns are pretty much a no-no here, dead in no time and they can't compete with the voracious, triffid like weeds here that virtually grow while you watch!
We stayed down on the coast for few days (keeping my mum company, she's over at the mo) and went back on Monday night. From the weeds just starting to spring up by our gates before, they had become inpassable! That John Wyndham guy has a lot for answer for!

Yup, Petrol starts to go "off" after 30 days and will eventually leave varnish like deposits in your carburettor....... do a Google Derek.

Hi Chris, Yes, it is BUT it's not showing properly on Photobucket..... my garden isn't that shape! Just noticed I got a PM from you, am I the only one here who doesn't get an alert to tell me I have a new message? I'll reply soon Chris, I'm up to the eyeballs with stuff at the moment. Hope all is good with you mate All the best, Mike.

PM alerts seem a bit erratic, sometimes you do but...
All's good here Mike, glad to hear you're busy. Boredom can be a bastard!
I guessed the stitch or summint was off by the lawnmower lines!
Cheers,
Chris

Cheers, Chris Hi Chris, I'm going like the clappers at my end mate.... so much to do now the good weather has appeared..... I've built a new garden gate and now need to varnish it and then mount it, have got the other gates to repaint, a ton of weeding to be done (industrial grade spray ), a friggin' "mole" to catch (he has popped up 7 times since I mowed the grass and unless I catch him he will ruin the grass) I'll rehome him in the neighbours lawn Building a new computer ( a water cooled jobby), the car needs a new timing chain, the dishwasher has packed in, quite a lot of Pinkies to be made and other Hi-Fi related jobs to be done......... I could "literally" go on and on and on and on....... I do, pretty much, eff all outdoors in the winter and spend the majority of the 5 days of summer going about the joint like a headless chicken on speed keeping the grass down and generally tooshing the exterior up. Never by "Ryobi"..... what a heap of CRAP their 4 stroke brushcutter is!!! It took me 5 hours to get the bloody thing fired up the other day and it seems to need constant "tweaking" to keep it running..... it's going to be Honda, all the way, if the house doesn't sell this year. The 100 hours "community service" I have to do is an inconvenience as Thursdays are wasted days but it's a doddle and I'm quite enjoying it..... I may ask the Sheriff if he wouldn't mind extending it to 1000 hours, I'm serious....... it's a great crack and sooooooo laid back I wish I had the time to be bored Chris! How is it with you in Premier spicy sausage land my friend? Mike.

Mike,
I just got a chance to take a look at the pictures. Gorgeous county you live in. What a view. My view is of the front of my neighbors house. Which looks exactly like mine. Wasn't there a line about that in a Don Henley song? Ugly boxes? Anyway, must have taken forever to cut all that grass. Reminds of being a kid. We had an acre of land. Grass had to be cut every spring. I hated it. Most folks say they like the smell of fresh cut grass. Not me. Can't stand it. Enjoy the spring! Oh my two cents. Honda makes the best engines. We had a number of different mowers, not for lawns, the big ones with huge blades, back in the day. The Honda was the only one I could get to start up on the first go.
