Just bought one of these and I'm very satisfied. If I was in the situation where I couldn't have a speaker-based system I think that the combination of laptop, library of music files and an XS would be just about perfect!
As other users have noted, the XS is a tad crisp, but not unpleasantly so. I like its openness and firmness of bass, and clear imaging abilitities; you can 'see' right into a performance. As I type I'm enjoying Claire Martin and Richard Rodney Bennett's album 'Witchcraft' in 24/192 FLAC. It's just the two vocals plus RRB's piano playing. Totally fabulous. Like I'm sat in the studio with them :-)

I guess that is a bit more compact than the M1 DAC but I'm on a bit of a sorbothane evangelist kick. Unscrew the feet and stick on sorbo hemispheres. IMHO super impressive for low bass, airy top and actually can be positioned to 'tune' the chassis albeit simply thicker/ thinner til you get the optimum balance. Midrange..time will tell
7 quid on ebay.

I found that a glass kitchen cutting board suspended via Mapleshade cork and rubber "Isoblocks" (1/2 blocks) on any shelf with the above mentioned sorbothane things, tighten things up nicely...so nicely, in fact, that they are "de rigeur" here at chez johnsan's.

I thoght those of you into vibration control would have loved that one. It really works, by the way but the bubble wrap has to be exactly 5 layers deep as well as the middle layer having every other bubble popped.

I didn't actually twig until you spelled it out! You should also change the right angle plug to a straight one so that the music doesn't bunch up and muddle on the corner
