It looks like we're making a long haul trip in June and my trusty old Senny PXs have been eaten by bugs I'll be using a combination of mobile phone and Fuze+, with or without a Zigis 3x9 amp. I really am not keen on noise cancelling models and am on a budget. They need decent bass as planes tend to suck the base out of everything and be either supra-aural or circumaural and preferably closed. Any up to date recommendations from travellers?

Beyer DTX501p. Good isolation, folds up very small, good quality, near-audiophile quality sound - just slightly treble-shy. In the U.S. it's $99.
Edit: Comes with the world's best travel case.

Cheers Dale, this one gets very conflicting reviews! Some say a little HF shy and others say a little too hot, folk eh... Shame I can't get to hear a set.

Cheers Dale, this one gets very conflicting reviews! Some say a little HF shy and others say a little too hot, folk eh... Shame I can't get to hear a set. I've had two of them, and my impressions aren't based on my hearing or tastes, they're based on direct comparisons to a number of reference headphones. For example, the Senn HD800 and Shure SRH940 are considered slightly bright. By that standard the DTX501p is slightly dull, or about 5-6 db shy of the HD800 in the treble. I have a picture of the EQ curve I did and you can see it here: Edit: Turn the curve upside down, i.e. it has an emphasis around 1500 hz, and a rolloff beginning above 6 khz. dalethorn.com/Photos/Audioforge/Beyer_Dtx501p.jpg
