I fitted a replacement regulated PSU PCB (+15V,-15V and +5V) to the analogue area of my heavily modified Silicon Chip magazine designed DAC using 2 x 2,200uF 35V Nichicon Fine Golds to get rid of the failing domed top Suntan electros. It sounded terrible compared with originally, and I was almost ready to rip it out again and replace the Nichicon electros with 2,200uF 35V Panasonic FC ,until it finally decided to stabilise a couple of days later. I then did the same for the additional digital area PSU which has only +15V ,and +5V out to supply the input PCB. It sounded like much lower level and a "cardboard" sound more like from the tiny speakers in the TV, and finally came good 3 days later after leaving on most of the day and evening. I would love the "experts" to explain this, when both of the digital area PSU outputs go through John Linsley Hood designed PSU add-on PCBs . The +5V after the JLH also goes to a Paul Hynes 3.3V regulator, and the +15V from the JLH to a “Cricket” which is fairly similar to a PFM “Flea” ( Heavily filtered Zener diode reference to an opamp ) and supplies VDD to the DSD1796. It’s weird how the input filter caps can cause similar sounding SQ problems to both digital and analogue areas.

Hi Alex, What is a 'cricket'? I have a heard of the PFM 'flea' which is primarily a clock regulator, but the Cricket is new to me....

Hi audiO The "Cricket" is an R.G. developed low noise supply for areas such as digital 3.3V low current supplies and 3.3V or 5V Xtal Oscillators. It is similar to the PFM Flea, but we also precede it with a JLH PSU add-on for greater effectiveness. I also use a single version in my X-DAC V3 for supplying a 24.576MHZ .3PPM TCXO
