I don't know about anybody else, but, I'm not rich...so I shop close-outs, discontinued items, some open box sales, etc. So, really luckily for me, I found this item on a reduced price deal from it's $149.99 retail price to a reduced price of $49.99, AND, it is exactly the type of digital interface I need but I really didn't realize it existed before I saw it on line in a close out section of an on line audio retailer.
It is a USB input to Coax digital output device. It's very tiny and on it's frontispiece it lists the KHz number it's processing in little blue lights. In my rig in my bedroom (one of 2 rooms in the entire 450sq.ft. apartment...it's in a woodsie setting, by the lake and they let you have dogs)...that consists of a modified Audio Note DAC Kits 1.1, I've never been able to hear the AN DAC Kit with a USB streaming music connection. I'd been sending an HDMI signal from the Cable TV box to the 51 inch Samsung Plasma TV and out it's Toslink output to a Toslink to Coax converter and on to the AN DAC Kit, and on to the AN preamp and onwards and upwards....and listening to Cable TV's Music Choice stations that way. Very limited music choices.
Now, the NuForce U192S was a bit finicky to set up, as according to the NuForce tech rep, the drivers on their website have to be chosen correctly (the .exe ones) from the DAC 80 and then they have to be downloaded and installed "without" the little U192S connected up. After the .exe drivers have installed, THEN, connect up the U192S...and...voila!...music! So, how does this sound? Well, it sounds like USB outputted music being played thru my AN DAC Kit 1.1. I am so happy. The myriad of choices of on line streaming free music stations is mind boggling and I'm trippin' on how much I am learning and what styles I like. Shoutcast, Digitally Imported, Radiopervii.com, are great for electronica and other styles. I'd never get to hear "Johnny Blue" music, I'm sure, otherwise. His "Meteoride" is fantastically rhythmic. "Electrosphere" is a really great streaming radio station...and at 320kbps! Most are 128kbps to 192kbps...some are 256kbps. But, now thru the AN DAC, it all sounds wonderful.
