This is my first post but I have followed this forum for a few years and was inspired to start upgrading with an X-CAN V3 as my first project followed by an A5.5 CD.
My soldering skills are pretty good but my understanding of how changing components affect the sound and indeed how they work is very limited and something I seek to improve.
I have just bought a 2nd hand HEED Dactilius 3 to use with a Sonos connect and straight out of the box the sound is much more dynamic and a much tighter bass.
The heed had a main PCB with two plug in boards one the Dac and the other the USB.
I thought I would replace all of the electrolytic capacitors all Jamicon 10Uf 63V on the main board with Elna Silmic II along with the diodes IN400? with ultra fast diodes.
Should I increase the values of any of the electrolytics?
The Dac board has 6 x Jamicon 10uf 63v electrlytic caoacitors, 2 x Jamicon 22uf 50V, 1 x Jamicon 47uf 63V and one 2.2uf 100V electrolytic capacitors.
I wanted to replace these with OSCON capacitors but they are not available in these voltages any suggestions why are the voltages this high on the Dac board?
It has 6 red diodes can anyone identify these and should I replace these?
Should I replace the film caps?
The DAC and controller chips are on the rear of the board.
The USB board worries me being mostly suface mount componets any suggestions?
Finally should I buy the Heed Q-PSU or build my own?
I have tried to attach photos but however small I make the files it says they are to big!
