I own a Mazda 2 and there's no Bluetooth interface or really much of any high tech gear in it except an in dash cd player/radio. However, there is an "Aux In" interface located on the center console right next to that "used to be" cigarette lighter which is now a plug in for cell phone battery charging and....
...the power source for my Soundfly Aux digital interface. This little thing plugs into the "Aux In" interface in the center console and sends a 320kbps signal to the in-dash radio's aux input, playing MP-3 files from either an i phone/pad/etc., or in my case, with flash drives or SD cards with MP-3 files I've ripped from cd's or sync'd from my hard drives. It won't read loss-less WAV files, but it does make MP-3 files sound amazingly good in the car. I guess, if using an MP-3 player, it'll send the signal via the FM tuner. But, I'd rather wire it up with flash drives via the Aux In interface.
There are bass and treble adjustments to be had, and a subtle sound field booster. The 3 inch screen is easy to see and files can be accessed via the remote. It has allowed me to take a large selection of my music library on trips and not have to listen to radio or drag a ton of cd's along. It fits the Mazda 2 perfectly for a digital music interface and makes it even more enjoyable to drive this cool little car with it's surprisingly peppy 100 h.p. engine.

When I ordered my MINI Clubman last year I opted for the basic Bluetooth facility; it's there for hands free phone calls and nothing more. But it does have a USB socket which takes memory sticks for music playback. I use 320kbps MP3s and it surely sounds just perfect in the car (to be honest it doesn't sound bad at home either). When I ordered the car I did, though, opt for the 'hi-fi' audio system upgrade. It's branded Harman-Kardon and gives better quality amps and drivers than the standard BMW/MINI ones, whatever they are.
I just love the manufacturer's spec for the system: "The 480-watt high-performance DSP amplifier in Class-D technology maximizes the fun factor". And "10 high-performance speakers ensure accurate music dynamics and excellent linearity". There's 2 woofers and two tweeters in the back plus two woofers and two tweeters at the front as well as two more window pillar mounted tweeters. The amp actually contains two 4-channel IC amps with, probably, an electronic crossover. If I have researched this thoroughly enough I believe the chips used are the TD7454 which can give 60W per channel into 2 Ohms.. so that's where they get their 480W from ;-)
But all in all, and excusing the marketing puff, music in my car sounds pretty darned good. No boom and tizz. Just a smooth detailed mid and very smooth top end which makes orchestral and vocal music a real pleasure. And there's plenty headroom for ZZ Top up loud on long motorway trips.

I must agree that maximum resolution mp3 sounds fine in the car. Mine is an older car (2002) with a standard cass-ceiver head with remote amp and cd changer (standard equip. on my car).
No aux input so I use one of those old FM modulators that you plug line into, attach that to the aeriel feed and put aside a FM preset for it. That allows me to pop on my Fuze+, which although plays Flac as well I really can't tell the difference in the car.

I took the car back in to the dealer to have the salesman that sold me the car, a young guy into speaker based hifi, listen to the meager sound system. He got in the driver's side and I fired up a flash drive with Sublime (the group) on it and he was shocked! He goes, "Did you put a sub in here?" I'm like, "Nope, sounds good don't it?" He was freakin' amazed! I mean there's only 4 speakers in this base "Sport" model...1 seven inch woofer in each of the four doors....and whizzer cones for tweeters mounted on the woofers! And it really gets it on...if you're familiar with Sublime...great recording engineering. He was rockin' out!
Anyway, MP-3 in the car surprised the be-jeezus out of me...whatever those are...
