I've found a little time to do bit of diy and have moved my musicPC on a bit. Part of this is doing a little linear supply to feed the picopsu on the motherboard. This is simply a LT1084 strapped to a heatsink. I was going to do the rectification and smoothing caps on veroboard, but decided to do a pcb instead. It wasn't too much work, as I'd already done something similar for a mate of Jeff C. Nothing special, but the main difference is the board house I used. I'd heard of Itead on diyAudio, and Mark also pointed me to a thread they were mentioned in. I went for the 2 layer green, 10cm x 5cm which delivered was £18.20. That was 12 pcbs, as I opted to open source the PCB. I've used makePCB in the past, but their lack of communication and long lead times are a bit painful. Itead acknowledged receipt of my files, informing me that they were being checked. Then told that they were in production and finally told that they had been posted. From emailing my files to delivery at my home, the total waiting time was 3 weeks. The only drawback compared to makePCB is doing larger quantities, but for small test runs or even topping up on PCBs for your own stock, I reckon they cant be beat on price and service.
