I have the Fiio X3 for about 3 months now.
It has replaced my broken ipod classic 5th generation, and my temporary mp3 player which is a Sansa Clip Zip.
It is far better than both.
I use it with my large headphones which (after cutting down) are the Sennheiser HD800 and the FOstex T50rp (modified similar to Mr Speakers Alpha Dogs).
I have enough detail and headroom.
The recent firmware upgrade turns it into a standalone amp/dac that can handle 24/192... which is a very good thing.
I do not have any of the problems many people seem to have in the thread at headfi... maybe i am lucky, or i don't mess around too much with it i don't know...
All in all a very versatile unit, and i wholeheartedly recommend it.

Hi other-Chris!
Good to hear a nice positive experience. As you intimated there has been a fair amount of discussion regarding the firmware, as regards to glitches, lockups etc. This put me off trying one altogether.

My X3 has gone away now so I can no longer take it out of the closet to have a look. I like the sound and the form factor, but getting to any one of my 2000 tracks was an unbearable chore, since there are no A to Z buttons or other methods to get to a track quickly. And it takes 30 seconds just to access the card after turn-on.
