I have been in Eric Dolphy mode of late,in particular, Oliver Nelson's The Blues and the abstract Truth. Very familiar to those of you with more than a fleeting interest in Jazz, but for those of you looking to bolster their collection with a few more titles, I can unreservedly recommend it. Don't be dissuaded by the Dolphy 'Avant Guard' connotation, an unlikely pairing maybe, but it really works, two very different approaches meshing superbly. With an outstanding rhythm section comprising of Roy Haynes on drums, Paul Chambers on bass and Bill Evans tickling the ivories. Not forgetting Freddie Hubbard on Trumpet duties and George Barrow on Baritone. Give it a try , let me know what you think.

Agreed, it's a gem. Got my copy as part of a vinyl 'two-fer' nearly 30 years ago (aaaaaaaaargh!).
I love ED, and I also like alot of Avant Garde/free Jazz, but I think he always plays 'inside' whoever he plays with, so not sure about the Avant Garde tag (his work on bass clarinet with Coltrane in the early 60s is spine-tingling!).
