Hi Alex, I think in the past that you mentioned that the ATC Semitiec CRD's also suitable (I hope so, as a I have a bag of them!) ? The E-152 is available from CPC in the UK, and pretty cheap. With reference to the AK/JC/WW pcb, R13(10k) would be replaced with this CRD when using the pcb voltages of 5Vdc and below. To confirm, the black cathode band would be nearest/connect with R12 (120k on the transistor base) and the collector of the other transistor. A lot of us have sworn by the Suntan caps when building the JLHRE's, as they don't seem to add to the flavour of the music. I think that you've mentioned that Rubycon YXF are also good? Think that it's a good idea to have all this in the build thread.

Ideally, you could first try a J506 , listen a while, then replace it with one of those. The data sheet doesn't say, so I presume you would connect them in circuit like a normal diode. The Rubycon YXF appear to work quite well, but don't forget that with analogue it is best to pair a low ESR type with a normal type of the same value in parallel, or the sound will likely become a little too detailed, and ultimately fatiguing for longer term listening . Samxon electros also work well there. Kind Regards Alex

Hi Will They must be a " closeout" item, because they sell for around $4 each on ebay from various suppliers. Kind Regards Alex

WARNING.
I can no longer recommend the use of Suntan Electrolytic capacitors in ANY project. Over a period of time I have had to replace more than a few Suntan electros due to domed tops. Initially I blamed it on circuit conditions. Last Saturday I purchased 3 x Suntan 4,700uF 16V (CAT. NO. RE6243) at Jaycar HQ. I asked the assistant who knows me pretty well , if others had reported having these develop domed tops at 12 months or so, despite being used well within ratings. While searching on the computer for the part number he plonked them down on the counter, but one wouldn’t stay upright. It was a brand new electro with a domed top and the electrolyte had leaked out from within, as evidenced at the lead exit. Tis morning, when checking my own stocks, I found that 3 out of 4 unused Suntan 2,200uF 10V Low ESR electros had developed domed tops and the bung at the bottom was protruding a little too, one quite badly. I took a photo of the 3 electros and sent it to the Editor of Silicon Chip magazine a little while ago. Somehow, I doubt that Suntan are the only manufacturers with such problems either. Alex
