Hi All
To cut a long story short we’ve been trying to get planning permission for some house alterations and a three port garage for some time. After several consultations with the local planning department we look like we will get the go ahead.
So
The new garage will be having a nice new first floor workshop/music room so all of Alex’s lovely Class A HA/PRE and power will be moving there later in the year along with the dedicated class A HA which I’m planning to build.
Yup
That’s a lot of Alex’s amps but I really do rate them that highly.
All good but noooooo
My wife said ‘’hey what about me’’ and ‘’what am I going to listen to when those amps are gone’’.
So her criteria
1) Compact
2) Good sounding
3) Easy to use
4) Headphone friendly
5) Not too expensive (she did baulk at the price of the Buffalo)
Errr
OK Dear
So I decided to have a go at one of these.
Teleporter/Opus/Ventus/Volumite for a compact easy to use DAC/HA/PRE all in one (one on off switch and one Vol Co only).
It’s an RG build with all of the good stuff from will’s superb Reg Boards to those great JLH shunts. All of which work well and where a real pleasure to construct.
Thanks to Will, John, Alex for the hard work put in to those boards.
Its set up to defeat the Pre out when Headphone are connected which works nicely. My wife has given it the SQ seal of approval which helps but won’t have anything less than the best amp wise.
Cost wise
Well not too much really
$75 for the Opus
$75 for the Ventus almost discrete
$30 for the Volumite
$45 for the Teleporter
PSU and transformers from the parts box.
Covert the $ into £ and it’s a nice price.
So for the above price you get a whole lot of DAC/HA/PRE which I think is good bang for the $£.
I’m planning on building another of Alex’s 15W class A amps to go with it as my wife is pretty fussy about SQ.
Having tried it with the 15W class A I have at the moment it sounds pretty good but not as good as Alex’s HA/PRE (but nothing that I’ve tried does).
Headphone wise it drives my HD650 quite nicely but lacks the Balls to drive my K701 so Sens it is.
So planning permission for the new 15 Class A granted
Take care
