Hey guys, (read bold text for the main points) I need a pair of open headphones which I can wear for hours on end. I want open mostly because I need to hear what's happening around me. I have a friend who has helped me - he's on this forum as Spirit - and I've managed to come down to a "best" option but I'm wondering if I can get input from few more people people committing. Spirit has the Senn HD600's and they've never quite sat comfortably on my head. They were the best I've ever felt, but I found the shaping around the ears was uneven for me, as was the pressure on the top of my head. - Please note this is not necessarily because I want more clamp on the 'phones and I understand there is a trade-off between clamp amount and weight (ontop of the head). So to get to the point I have come down to the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Premium's. Now that you know where my deductions have led me I might be able to get some good feedback on alternate headphones I can look at or maybe that I have picked the right model. I don't particularly mind about price, although I wouldn't bother with anything over AU$1000 and would much prefer something sub-AU$500. I'm no audiophile either, but I appreciate a good sound. Note: a friend on facebook has just suggested these: headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=178 - ATH-AD700. I haven't done any research on them yet so have just added them in here. Maybe someone will know which is better: DT 990 Premium's or ATH-AD700Cheers for the help in advance guys! C-Rad

I owned a pair of DT 880's for a time and found them very comfortable. I tried on a pair of 770's this weekend, also very comfortable. But what is comfortable for me may not be for you. Also the sound of the headphone can be tiring after a while if it doesn't have the FR that you ears like. I found the DT's to be a little too bright for me. I find my LCD-2's very comfortable, but others I know don't. I have a larger than average hat size, (yes I am a fat head). And that plays a role. You have to do trial and error to find what works. Cheers, Ron

Thanks for the feedback, I think that's what I'll have to do - go to a store and try some on... I didn't anticipate the FR being an issue so thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'm accustomed to deeper, mellow sounding headphones so the 990's, if bright, might be uncomfortable to listen to.
