BTW...... Ordered from Arrow models on Saturday and it arrived today, beautifully wrapped in brown paper..... they seem a really nice firm operating out of Scarborough: There was even a little handwritten note thanking me for my order..... tht's the type of firm I like dealing with It makes all the difference ! These "RC" suppliers are usually a faceless, supercilious, patronising bunch of arseholes..... nice to see a company so happy and dedicated in what they do AND show themselves..... I will use arrow models for all my future RC purchases..... you're right Leo, the personal touch makes ALL the difference

BTW.... totally off topic but three of the men appear to wearing the same type of belts..... the bald bloke on the right has a jumper on and his belt is hidden but I bet you a pork pie he ALSO has the same belt on..... What does this tell us? It tells us they are a "team"...... they all wear leather thongs, pink socks and black string vests..... That's how it should be! Working as a team, dressing as a team, eating as a team, sleeping together as a team....... it's all about "team playing". I want to be a member of the Arrow Models team..... where can I source one of those belts

That's a good price Mike. I have so many of them that I don't want to buy any more until these ones die on me. The Twister will go 8 minutes or so, but nowadays, I fly for anything between 4 and 8 so that I don't flatten them for good. I also slow charge them.
You'll probably enjoy the Twister. A coax on steroids.
X4 is a more difficult little bugger. It's the first thing I've crashed in ages!!

Just in case - if the X4 is twitchy and odd behaving (as mine was) there is a reset option which might well be worth doing at the start. Left joystick held down and to the right. Flick the right joystick left and right to the extremes over and over until the heli lights blink. This resets the accelerometer. I mentioned the speed of this thing. It is actually really twitchy at full rates and it tips very easily if you give it too much stick. (Resulting in a broken blade for me!!!) You can trim the rates on the remote. You go into setup procedures from the handbook and you can lower the rates for all joystick commands. Now that will calm the little bugger down!! I think I'll take mine right down for indoors. (It's currently around 60% for all movements) and adjust outside once I go out with it. I did a flip in the front room with it ....... accidentally!! Perhaps all heli pilots should get one of those jumpers and a belt? ...... and one of those shirts!!!

Am very tempted by the little Hubsan thing. Looks like loads of fun. But trying to save up to convert my T-rex 600 to flybarless at the moment, plus I've just blown a load of cash on Headphones , amp parts, cables etc so need to close the wallet for a bit !! Just want the flippin' weather to improve a bit so I can get back outdoors and get some proper flying done. The cold really gets to my fingers. Even with my Transmitter mitt on, 3 mins into the flight, my fingertips go numb !! Can't feel the sticks !! NOT good when the 600 is upside down in front of me !!

NOT good when the 600 is upside down in front of me !! I'm always nervous if any heli is upside down near me. I went to a place where a guy was flying a 450 upside down and instead of sending it up fast, he sent it down!! There wasn't much of it left.

Yeh, that happened to me a few months back.
Inverted hovers still take ALL my concentration. And that's inverted nose in, I ain't even learned inverted tail in or side on yet.
But after just learning it with my 450, and holding a nice stable inverted hover, things got a little out of shape and I threw in my instinct bail out move which is a sharp punch of the collective upwards to gain some height / time to sort things out............. HOWEVER , when inverted, a sharp punch of the collective upwards means....... you guessed it ! Hello mother Earth ! Man did it happen fast !!
I was left thinking.... how the hell.......... then I realised what I'd done !! I won't make that mistake again ! They say you learn something valuable from each crash. I sure did !
Now the 600 stays nice and high when inverted !!!

The new props arrived. replaced the broken one and off she went like a rocket.
I've dumbed down the throttle control on the remote and it's much more controllable now. Just set at 35% and it's way smoother for indoors. Once I got it trimmed, I took it outside and onto full whack. Inddors, it's like a pussy cat now I've worked out the set up on the remote. It flies really smoothly and very straight with no lumpy bumpies in the air!! It is a little more advanced to fly than the Twister but easily controlled.
Dead easy to flip. You can do one after the other both forward and backward flips and well as sideways. On full rates, it truly flies like a bullet and it fights the wind quite well.
The biggest problem is its small size and seeing it once it gets further away. It's quite easy to not be able to see which way it's facing so the easiest way is to push forwards and see which way it moves!!
It is really nippy and letting rip outdoors is great fun. So I had my first outdoor race today with it. Had a good half hour out there since I bought three batteries with it so I alternated with the other quads to allow the motors to cool. Really worth the money.

Sam set up Shaun's X4 and it was hovering on a sixpence..... some knucklehead had a go of it and smashed one of the blades so it's out of action until a new set of blades arrive. I really like the look of the Walkera MX-400, it would be great outdoors

I do fancy a big quadcopter. They are such good fliers and go very fast. As stable as a co-ax and as fast as a single blade heli.
What surprises me with the X4 (and twister) is how well they do outside. On full whack, the X4 is reallt quite aggressive. It flips all over the place really easily too.
There was a big quad I liked but it was about £200. Very fast and big, so it could cope well up in the sky. That Walkera doesn't have too much lift which can create a problem if it comes down too fast.

If anyone gets one of these and is a beginner I felt that it might help to tell you something about flying it nicely!!
a) Press the right hand joystick and hold it down to get it into 'set up' and for indoor flying get it to around 35% on forward/backward. Leave the others on 60%. That way, it won't rip off and hit the wall so easily. b) Trim it thoroughly each time you fly. It's tricky with the trims. I hover, watch, land, trim. Keep repeating until the thing is staying put. Mine doesn't move in hover much at all once it's right. The problem is that the heli doesn't stop until you tell it to by a reverse move. That makes for seriously smooth flight but YOU have to hold it. If it slides off to one side, you won't stop it by letting the sticks stay in the middle - you have to correct it. c) Turns can be tricky since this behaves a bit like cp helis on turns. You need to have the right joystick pushed the way that you are turning while turning with the left. So if you are using the rudder to turn left, you need to have the aileron slightly left so the heli leans into the turn. Then it seriously goes around. Preferably have the aileron on left and forward. (Slightly diagonal) Then you get real speed on turns.
I've had a real play around with it this morning outside and it's damned quick and extremely responsive. I really like it as a quad but it takes getting used to if you are a beginner. It has more similarities with the Blade MQX in the way it flies. (Not the Twister which is simpler)
This is a great value heli but buy spare batteries (I have 4) and buy at least one set of props. They are cheap and I guarantee you'll break a propeller within half an hour. No big deal because they're cheap but there's nothing more frustrating than having a new heli that you can't fly after 20 seconds.
For me, it's not actually difficult to fly, but it came as a surprise how fluid its flight is and how fast it is so I smacked a prop within 10 minutes. I bought 4 sets of props because they're only about £1.30 per set of 4. Now I've played around with it, I'm finding it incredibly good.

The twister arrived to day Ian..... looks like it's going to be great fun! I've only flown it in the very limited confines of the bike shop so far but on 20% setting it was as stable as a rock..... Of course, Sam had a go and ended up on 100% setting.... he even tried a flip but there wasn't enough "height" in the shop to pull it off..... this thing is insanely good for £40 and the spare canopy and blades is something all helicopter manufacturers should include.... the on off button on the transmitter for the LED's is cool, in fact the entire transmitter is cool! I can't wait to try the Twister outdoors or in a hall, it seems so easy to flip it and I bet you could get some speed up with it! Shan's Hubsan lasted approximately 2 days First off it lost a propellor and yesterday he dropped the transmitter and smashed the aerial off.... whoops! Not sure if you can buy the transmitter on its own? I really liked the X4 but the Quad Twister is a lot easier to fly. Sam's not too keen on the quadcopters but admits that the Twister is insanely STABLE..... He likes things to resemble real helicopters.... thing is, these quadcopters will probably become a reality in a few years time.... if not as passenger carrying craft they sure will be used as surveillance / airborn nonce cams by peeping toms..... Air traffic control for Quadcopters will become essential..... "The Glitter Pedo Quad is hovering above the primary school, rapid response team required!" I wonder if they will take out the Glitter / Saville quads with conventional helicopters or will they tackle them with surface to air missiles? My god, it's bad enough being "watched" by the powers that be as it is..... being watched by your neighbours is the icing on the cake...... Having a barbecue next week? Watch out, I'll be filming your every move from my Quadcopter..... I may even do a fly by with my Hubsan X4 and pop up your wife's skirt and take a shot with my "knicker cam" In all seriousness, I must be the ONLY person who's not interested in fitting a camera onto a quadcopter.... what is this obsession with voyeurism that the British seems to have? I just don't get it I don't give a rat's arse what my neighbours are doing and I'm certainly not in any hurry to to fly a remote controlled "camera" over their garden..... that smacks of "sad bastard" to me..... Ian.... what's the max speed of the Twister? The Hubsan is quoted @ 25MPH.... I reckon the Twister could beat that on 100%, full throttle? Mike.

Ian.... what's the max speed of the Twister? The Hubsan is quoted @ 25MPH.... I reckon the Twister could beat that on 100%, full throttle? Mike. I'm not sure what the top speed for the Twister is Mike. I know it goes pretty fast but the beauty of it is that it has an inbuilt brake to stop it. Just let go of the sticks and it'll stop. The quads are like co-axes on steroids. That's what I like about them. I flipped the Twister by accident in my front room - and it went over and recovered!! I was lucky. 100% is ferocious. I don't use it for long periods. I stick at 60% outside for normal flying and switch to 100% for flips. (You know how cautious I am!!) It's a lovely thing to fly and one of my favourites actually. Take it easy with it though - it's very tempting to take chances and then before you know it - Bang!! Pass the canopy and the props..... I stuck my spare canopy onto the MQX. It's easier to see far away. As you get confident, you'll start to send it further away - it's a hoot. Sometimes, to get it down from height quickly, instead of hovering, I do a flip so that it loses ten feet in height straight away. Be very careful of 100% though. Fast forward is mad. My X4 is flying well now. I found that it needed a little trimming, which was the cause of my accident, but it only broke one of the props and they're just push on. I even sent that up high today. I can see it up against a cloudy sky fine, but it looks minute up there. Bloody fast as well. The biggest difference between the Twister and X4 is the inbuilt brake on the Twister. The X4 continues after you let go of the sticks so it's a bit more like being on ice. TBH, it's a little bit more advanced to fly and easily goes out of control. (as Sam has found) I really like it though. I have another little quad on the way. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0092MR99W/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I really like these little buzzers a lot and having more than one means that you can switch between them so each one cools off properly. It paid off big time with the MSRx which runs really hot. I have two and while everyone complains of short motor life, mine keeps buzzing away up there 'cos I swap it on each flight. The MSRx is difficult but in the end, it's an amazing little performer in the wind. I'm chucking that around like a banshee. Glad to see you're back into the joysticks Mike. As long as the stuff you fly is comfortable for you, you'll start to enjoy it again. Twister is a top heli, but be patient ........

Shaun's Hubsan X4 is up and running again and I had a go of it this afternoon, outside the bike shop, on expert mode...... aha! much more responsive on expert mode! This is a little rocket isn't it? There was a slight breeze out there (about 8MPH in parts) but the X4 made mincemeat of it on expert setting.... it's amazing JUST how fast this little bastard can go! I prefer the advanced settings, you can fling it about with more precision than on the nonce settings..... left turn / yaw left brought about crisp turns and she was a piece of cake to 360...... I got a bit carried away and sent her off at full throttle, 100 foot in the air, over the centre of Thurso and had to ditch her in somebody's front garden..... luckily, it was only 100 yards away and I found her sitting on top of a hedge "undamaged" Sod it, I've just ordered one of these for myself..... I reckon you could do some seriously impressive stunts with these little bitches (or bastards)...... they are CRAP on the nonce settings but on expert mode they are really good "let the bitch rip!" fun. Pretty much indestructable and 16 new props can be had for as little as £8 so you can fly this as if it was a stolen car.... rev the arse out of it, take it into warp 9, push the envelope, "she won't take it captain" style....... To "hover" this bitch is missing the point..... this is a rip it around and miss obstacles by an inch type ride....... WOW!, if £35 buys you THIS then what will £400 buy you? I love it.

I think the modern terminology would be "bitch slap it" Video of me "bitch slapping" a Hubsan x4 (pronounced "HOOBsan" by these weird yankees) is on the cards...... I'll slap the arse out of it

Hubsan X4 FPV soon to be released! It will retail for £169. You can use it with the Hubsan FPV goggles or the screen on the supplied FPV transmitter. It will be the smallest FPV Quad on the planet. www.directsource4u.co.uk/hbn-technologies/hubsan-fpv-x4I've got one on pre-order, this thing will be mental!!!

That'll be a bit of fun!! If it's anything like the Blade plane with FPV, you only get a picture when the aerial is actually pointing at the bird!! Also the sun can be a bit of a pain, but I don't think you get too much up there.
Imagine having glasses feeding the picture back. Like you're in the Quad!! You'd be seasick!!
