Been reading about the Aune DAC/Amps and was wondering if they have a unit suitable to drive a pair of HD800's? Ideally I'd like to connect to my MacBook via optical.

Which model would be good for my forthcoming purchase of HD800's specifically given that I'd like optical link to my MacBook Pro ? I am not aware of any Aune product that matches your requirements. You could try checking the Aune website though. The HD800s really deserve a full on separate high quality DAC such as the JK32 reviewed by Ian, and a high voltage rail type amplifier. The Aune HA presently being reviewed should suit the amplifier side, although I would search around for reviews using both this HA and the 800s. It would be a shame to team up headphones like this with lesser quality equipment. Regards Alex

There is a consensus that Auditor/Phonitor and Lake People amps suite the HD800's well, but i cannot confirm this, also Bottlehead amps, and some claim the Lefigaro gives good results also Woo Audio amplifiers.
In my experience the best i am getting is out of my Musical Fidelity M1 HPA, and my clone Lehmann Black Cube linear i built from a Chinese e-bay kit... and it sounds wonderful. A close second is my portable Objective O2 amp... also nice with the HD800's.
My modified Aune amp/dac is definitely not on par with the above, but this is the older model...
it might well be worth a try to see if the new Aune amp will drive them nicely...
I agree totally with Alex...

Get the best results from mine using Frans C H Amp from an Assus Essence One dac. Mick. Hi Mick What output resistance settings are you using with Frans amplifier for best results? That ability, combined with the high supply rail voltages, is something I really like about Frans design. It's a pity that the commercial amplifiers don't normally provide the ability to better match to the headphones being used. Kind Regards Alex

Hi Alex,
100 ohms i believe, as Javier set it up for me specifically for the 800`s, after consultation with Frans.
I will take the top off and confirm asap with the setting chart that is positioned inside.
ATB. Mick.
