Yep, I did the same a couple of days ago. My sons set are now on the way so I'll still be able to get a listen. Just noticed I've passed the 4000 posts in five years mark That's 800 posts of total drivel per year. What do you mean I need to get out more?

Being a registered id&ot I continued to burn in the set and it has 425 hours! I still thank the bass is a bit much and will probably open them up to add some dynamat damping material as well as some cotton in an attempt to tame the bass.

One pair arrived today. After the sonly one had had his fun I popped them on for a quick listen.
The bass is thunderous! I would class these as a fun headphone, biggest bang, almost literally, for the buck.
I switched between Fuze+ direct, via Zigis 3x9 amp and PC setup with SCHA amp. Sound balance wise, I reckon these have been deliberately tuned to work best direct from the player. Putting an amp in seems to bring out the worst in them, bloated bass, recessed mids blah, blah.
So a KISS headphone methinks. If you like your music to bump to grind then these are just the ticket. For me I think I'd end up with a headache after not too long so I was correct to cancel mine but my son is dead chuffed with his.
The only fly in the ointment was that the short lead was faulty. Now waiting on Thomann to send a replacement. (didn't that happen on the first 681?)

I removed the ear pad and the more or less 3" foam disk that it holds. I then saw a smaller about 1.5" foam disk that is glued in front of the driver on a plastic frame, which I proceeded to remove. Put the large foam disk back and the stock ear pads. I believe the top end is a tad more clear/open, nothing major just an small touch.
BTW, I tried to open the capsule and found that after removing the three screws the front and back are glued! If anyone figures out how to do it without damaging the unit please post your method. Thanks.

Still awaiting my sons replacement set after very nearly two weeks! Unfortunately I have to deal with the Spanish wing of Thomann so the usual apathy there. They claim to have not received the first set back, BTW not just the faulty cable but one driver started to squeal intermittently as well. All proofs copied and sent and waiting for someone to get off their arse.....

Compared to the old hd681, I was also disappointed. To boomy and clogged. After I removed the glued felt above the driver, they sound much more like the old ones and are fun to hear. In my opinion they are no upgrade and superlux tried to get rid of the harsh highs in putting a thick piece of felt on the driver, which reduces the highs but makes everything else much worse.

While I'm on the war path....
Here's another company, Thomann, that is a pile of sh1t when it comes to customer service.
I'm still awaiting action on this and am hopefully towards the end of my Paypal claim. They now ignore all communication including that from Paypal.
A'holes!

Finally got the refund on these! What a rubbish company, full of excuses empty on action. Two months for a refund on a faulty product, ridiculous!

Yeah I too found them to be awkward to deal with, they really are not interested in you once they have your money. A few more suggestions on companies to avoid and who does offer great service would be welcomed and most useful, good service deserves good trade.

Erm, sorry for bumping this thread, but I registered only to say thanks for your reviews of this headphone and introducing me to the world of good audio with the original HD681, and I must say one thing. I'm a EDM listener, and I find these headphones PERFECT for this kind of music and good for casual listening of other genres like jazz and classical. Also I don't know if you guys know this, but there are 2 versions of the EVO, one that includes velvet/velour earpads and one that doesn't, and I say, the second version sounds much better! I came to this forum while searching for a good budget headphone since my crappy Skullcandys broke and I stumbled on the HD681, and after reading the lengthy thread about it and its modifications, decided to buy them. After a year and a half of giving me their best, their cable died on me and I decided to buy some removable cable headphones, so I found these and bought them. That's how I ended over here.

Gorepixel It's always good to hear from people like yourself. Feel free to join in other discussions. We are also always interested to hear what others like to listen to, and perhaps even watch via Youtube videos etc. Regards Alex
