"It's a very refined listen, nothing is overly accentuated, it's neutral and it is accurate....... I'll say no more Oh hell, yes I will....... Don't even "ask" how it compares to a "solo" or a "Musical Fidelity" etc.... it doesn't..... it's leagues above." are you still of the same opinion, Mike? Yes, I'm still of the same opinion..... the S2 is a much better buy for the money..... I really shouldn't say that, and wouldn't say that if I was a money grabber, but I honestly would rather put my money toward a new S2 than a vintage MF V1 , V2 or V3..... If you were to ask me if the S2 sounded better than a "modded" X-CAN then I may say no / maybe / all depends I'm trying to be as impartial as I can.... I offer upgrade kits for the MF amps, I make money from those kits (not a lot but "money" nonetheless)...... It's a hard one to answer but a stock V1 / V2 / V3 / V8 versus a stock S2? I'd go with the AUNE S2 every time. A stock S2 (for example) versus a modded V3? I'd probably go in favour of the MF V3. There are so many variables involved. Hope this helps

I feel the same way. It's hard not to be biased and I LOVE my original V2 modded by Mike and btw, my V8 which he also modded. They are both superb. If given a choice of a stock V2 or V8, I'd get an S2. I really do like this amp a lot. It's warm but has a lovely, cohesive kind of sound that has lots of oomph behind it. I like the original Panda too but this is one neat little amp that just feels and sounds like quality. Plus the fact that the build quality is way ahead. If I was on a budget, I still think the T1 is a bargain as well. £135 for an amp like that is a really good buy. As soon as I heard the T1 I went and bought one. Aune gear is well thought out imo.

have you guys compared it to other SS amps? I don't see it being an issue whether it's ss or tube tbh. I have no bias one way or the other. An amp is an amp I don't mind what technology is used whatsoever. I have compared it to an MF ss, the original Panda, various little mini amps plugged in, including the 18v Neco and Neco's Bosfet, and yes ...... a Graham $lee Solo. (Not mine any longer though) It is hard to hear a really bad amp nowadays. They're all pretty good and differences for some people would be minimal. Not to forget that I've been listening to headphones for over 40 years. Slightly less than Alex though!! In terms of build quality and sound, the T1 is the best.

as you say "it is hard to hear a really bad amp nowadays". i would love to trial a £1k+ amp. i cannot imagine how a dedicated hpa of this value could improve that much on what i am already listening to! with my headphones, changing the hpa or the dac make only subtle differences, to my ears.

For a straight out of the box amp, I would agree. The build quality IS second to none, the internal components are the best of quality and the sonics are just what you would expect from a well designed amp. There is nothing that displeases and plenty to please..... if the S2 was made in the UK you WOULD be buying a £1,000 amp, no question about it.....
Fully regulated / linear power supply housed in a solid billet of aluminium enclosure with top quality toroidal transformer...... erm... that PSU "ALONE" would cost you well over £500 if the likes of Mister Slee or Mister UK had to manufacture it.....
It's quality, in every respect, and the asking price for the PSU "alone" is cheap.... throw in the amp as well and the asking price is absolutely INSANE.
The S2 is QUALITY, no other way of describing it, it gets a firm recommendation from me.

Maybe time to look at your source and NOT at the "amp".... an amp will only amplify the signal, it will not make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.... having said that, a "good" amp and a good "source" will give you a much better eargasm than a mediocre amp and source....
What headphones are you primarily listening to?

I have enjoyed listening to my new Aune S2 amp for a month now. There are three (3) variable resistors per channel in this amp according to Mike's picture from Nov 13, 2012. I would like to check the settings of these variable resistors with a DMM but unable to find any information or instructions.
Mike, have you checked yours after all this time?

Hi, Welcome to the forum. The settings will be pretty much the same as the DIY Panda..... have a look at this thread for more info: rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/6605/panda-kit-build-threadAll the best, Mike.

Thanks for the quick reply. The panda-kit has only two (2) trimmer resistors per channel, VR2/VR4 and VR3/VR5, with all through-hole components. The Aune S2 has three (3) trimmer resistors per channel, VR2/VR4/VR6, with mostly SMD components and different output transistors.
A similar set of instructions with pictures as in the panda-kit thread will be very helpful.

A similar set of instructions with pictures as in the panda-kit thread will be very helpful. I totally agree with you! If you email "Candy" she will give you the info you require ( sales@hifidiy.net ) and you'll then be able to compile a "how to" and upload it to the forum. My two S2 amps haven't seen daylight for a few years and I don't really have the spare time, at the moment, to get down and dirty (under the bonnet) with them so there's a little project that you could help the forum with. From memory, VR2/VR4 readings are the same as they are in the Panda..... not sure what VR6 is (without cracking the hood) but you will, hopefully, soon be able to tell me Candy is very helpful, speaks superb English and will consult with the chief engineer to ensure your query is answered in full. I look forward to your set of instructions with pictures. All the best, Mike.

That probably has something to do with Chinese New Year celebrations that culminate today. I would assume any Chinese company has either left their email on gone away or simply switched it off until they return to work after the most important holiday in the Chinese calander.
Try again for Monday, I'm sure your mail will get through.

Mike, if you are interested to review it, please contact her. Oh dear, That's not what any of us wanted to hear....... they are essentially saying "we don't make that anymore so buy our latest amp"...... absolutely out of order and indicative of the throwaway society that is "now". I won't be reviewing ANY of their products if that is the way they do business..... any decent company will keep spares / datasheets / provide support etc. for 20 years (minimum)......... they are not selling the S2 Panda anymore so fekk off and buy our new amp is their policy? Attrocious!

They should have at least been willing to supply a copy of the schematic, and Mike or myself would have been able to work out the functions of the various trimpots if they weren't obvious..
